OT: Need 3DS Max 5 rendering tips...

Hey all.  Just wondering if someone can give me a simple, direct, quick and dirty set of instructions to get a ghost like effect for rendering ships.  Talking with MP, and he has a great idea to render one ship in a ghost like fashion with another ship.  I know such effect can be done, but I don't know how.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.  :-D

Under Environment you can set up a Glow effect, all setting can be changed in there - Make sure to alter the BufferID of the object via right click and properties, then match that with object ID in the Glow dialog.

you can do this easier in video post, if ya need me to explain it to ya my aim name is  tus1985.  However to make your object transparent you will need to add a material to the opacity slot in the material editor.  I would suggest just use a noise map or somthing from max.  since you want ghostly i suggest you not make it to black, as it will completly disappear, insteadl go from a light grey (85% brightness) to a dark grey (25-35%).  hope that helps

TUS, remind me to pick your brains when you get on Christmas break.

You may also want to try to get some of your desired effects in Photoshop or a similar program.  There are plenty of things you can do in Photoshop that you simply can't do in max.

If you're trying to do this in an animation, then just ignore this suggestion.

I use ps mostly for editing.  i would disagree though, just about everything can be done in max, it just takes time and patience to figure out how to go about it, much like photo shop.  The only thing i've found i can't make in max is that watermark stuff i have on all my images, that is photoshoped
