Questions concerning SFC3
« on: November 13, 2005, 12:04:27 pm »
Hello,

I have bought SFC-3 at Ebay some months ago.

It is a great game, but I stopped playing after a few days because of the following:

1. I am German and I have the German version. I know that the latest us patch 534b works also
on the German version (have tried it), but it makes the mission-mode useless for me because I can't speak
English very well (maybe my English knowledge is good enough for a forum or simple communication, but
English in a Star Trek game is quite difficult for me). So I'm using the latest German patch 531, but it seems
so that the game would be much better with 534b.

2. I always loose in the second mission in the klingon campaign. This is because I don't hit the enemys!!!
I shoot 10 photon torpedos but only 2 of them hit the enemy (statistic).
And disruptors hit very rarely.

3. I don't know whether my game is correctly patched or not. I used forum search and found the installation
instructions for 531 patch. It says: first install 500 on a unpatched SFC3 and then install 531.
Is this correct?

Why I don't hit the enemys most time?
Do I forget something in fights?

I just make the enemy as a target pressing "t", go to red alert and shoot when the weapons are in range.
(I have some experience with Star Trek Bridge Commander; maybe this is bad because SFC3 has other physics?)

Can you help me?

Another question:

When I shoot at a Borg cube, the torpedos are exactly in the middle of the cube - but sometimes they just fly through the cube!
Maybe it is good to reduce hitting chances, but how is it possible to miss a borg cube ??????

when playing SFC3, keep in mind that a lot of weapons in the game are heavily effected by the "Angular Velocity" value listed when you target a vessel.  If this value is way up, it will be very difficult to get a good shot on the enemy.  Also, there are other values in the DefaultCore ship list that dictate how big the ship is, if its a small vessel, it will be more difficult to hit aswell.

To maximize hit probabilities, try to keep at 1/2 impulse and make sure your AV value is low when firing.

do you mean angular velocity of the target ship or of myself?

Thank you all for help!

I never looked on the AV. Now I understand that I almost never hit the enemy.
I sometimes shot at 150 AV.  :o

Is it possible to patch the game to 534b keeping the German language?

In Bridge Commander I just copied the language/text files from CD to the installation folder
after getting an English mod and it became German again.

Is this possible in SFC3, too, without overwritting the mission-scripts ? (I don't want to overwrite
patched scripts with the older ones, only the text)

Other problem:

I have read something about the Online-mode of SFC3 - I think it is named dynaverse3.

I can't connect to the server!

I have forwarded the following ports in my router configuration and the Windows SP2 Firewall:

Port 6073 UDP
Port 2302-2303 TCP

I think that is correct (according to the multiplayer readme)

I can connect to the access-server, but when the "directplay test" appears, there comes a timeout.

I have DirectX 9.0c installed, like it comes with Service Pack 2.

I have tried to allow echo requests in the Windows Firewall, but that was no solution.

Any suggestions?

a good way to get in a good shot is to wait til weapons are charged, then grab him with a tractor, then alpha strike. That tractor brings the AV down to almost zero.....

Also allow echo requests at the router and try adding your public IP address to the SFC.ini file but remember to change it if your public IP address changes!

Quote
Under [Meta], add another entry for your outside IP:

IPAddress = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

This works for people with routers.

Also you may need to have an entry BehindNAT=1 too.

Now I can connect!
Thx!

But I don't need to allow echo requests (in router, there is nothing about this; in Win Firewall it is on something like "automatically")
And I don't need to add my IP.
I just add BehindNAT=1 and it works !

Is there something like a guide to learn everything about the dynaverse mode?
Which mod should I use to play on a good server?
(which server should I use)
(what is the best mod? (stability, fun)

Just curious to ask, I'm having trouble logging on to Dynaverse2 with SFC OP.  I'm not sure what the problem is, but do I have to insert my IP Address in the SFC OP .ini file like SFC3 has?  I notice the following segment in the file...

[IPAddress]
NumOfEntries=1
Entry#0=Local Area Network
[ModemAddress]
NumOfEntries=0

Just wondering if this is my problem.

No, there is no IPAddress line in the sfc.ini for OP.
