Warpfighter WIP
« on: November 14, 2005, 07:49:47 pm »
I decided to stop being a talker and start being a 'basher  ;D (courtesy of Wicked Zombie, LC Amaral, and ATX).   I've really appreciated the beautiful work I've seen on these forums for years, so I took some time to start a project I've been dreaming about for awhile now... the Warpfighter.

I plan on using it in StarLancer as a fighter and as a combat shuttle in SFC. What do you think? I cannot publish it until I get permission from WZ, LC, and ATX. If you all like it let me know and I'll post at battleclinic when I've finished and have permissions.

LC, WZ, and ATX if you're reading this what do you say?

Buck roger meets Trek. Very good indeed. The nacelles look very strangely placed but at the same time they do suit it.

Kids these days...  ;)

Once upon a time, Mackie, back when you were just a sparkle in your daddy's eye, there was a TV show called "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century," made by many of the same people who worked on the original Battlestar Galactica.  That show featured a fighter that looked like this:

Thanks for the encouragement folks. I'm waiting on permissions and then I'll port to mod format and test. Hopefully I'll get a break from flying (my real life job) and have an early Christmas present for you all.

::) I wondered if anyone would notice that it is the Buck Rogers Warpfighter (instead of Starfighter). BR, BSG, and ST were my favorite shows when I was a small fella.

Here's an alternate design - I'm also working on a couple of other variants that I'll post when ready for feedback.

Which do you prefer?

You haven't learned how it works here, yet, have ya, dude?  You need to release both, and then TMP and TOS versions as well...  ;)

(Assuming this is as TNG-ish as it looks...  :) )

I've sent emails to all involved for permissions, but unfortunately no replies yet. WZ's email bounced back with a delay delivery notice. If anyone knows him, ask him to check out this post.

Atrahsis did a very good  low poly Starfighter years ago on his site -- The Ark. It's not there now but with encouragemnt I'm sure he'd re-release. I don't think know if he's a fan of batleclinic.

Another variant teaser... FYI the second two variants use a diffrrent base mesh that is higher poly/detail (I'm having trouble texturing it!). The first variant comes in at ~2k after being bashed. The other two are ~4 to 5K. Alot for a little fighter... I'm still partial to the first variant but I'd like to hear what you have to say.

Here's an idea, as per your first posted pic, I see you have both Defiant and regular styled nacelles on the ship. Keep the defiant nacelles, remove the standard ones and see what the ship looks like.

Man I know, my dad forcefed me with TOS and Buck Rogers when I was kid :P
And by that I mean  he made me sit on his lap and make me watch Trek marathons for HOURS which is kind of why it got stuck with me ;P
(and all the other kinds of early scifi to boot with)

OMG this thread is getting weird! Isnt halloween over?

On the 2nd variant, I like the warp nacelles back there rather than running the length of the pontoon. Kinda like warp booster packs for ftrs in SFB. But can u do TMP version?

The 3rd, the one with the rollbar, thats overkill, lol and prolly getting into too many polys for a ftr. Dont like the looks of that... too flimsy for a ftr.

I've gotten permission from ATX to use his Starfighter body - THANKS!!! Visit his site at http://ca.geocities.com/darkatx@rogers.com/Navbuoy/  He may be releasing some more cool models for XWA soon. Great work ATX!

Still haven't heard from WZ or LC and the emails I sent them are bouncing back. Can anyone help me get in touch with them? I don't feel good about releasing a bash that uses their parts without permission. :(

Here are some quick renders of version 4 and 5 taking some of your suggestions. They need some tweaks but your ideas look cool.
