Help with logging on to dyna please
« on: November 13, 2005, 07:41:45 am »
Hi guys,

This has been done to death but would appreciate some help or a link to the right thread.

Ive just got a new adsl connection and an adsl2 modem (Linksys MUE). When I try to log on to dyna I get the firewall error, also when I log on to GSA I get a proxy/firewall error - different internal / external IP address, and in turn I cannot host or join games.

I even tried hooking up my router (Surecom EP-9610SX-gp), but still get the same errors, even with port forwarding.
Regarding port forwarding, do you port forward using your provider assigned IP address or the one that appears on your LAN connection (c prompt - ipconfig)?

Ive tried with all firewalls down, just in case - no luck. Also I have a static IP address from my provider, dont know if this matters.

Would appreciate any help or ideas!

But it looks like you need the manual and full control over your "adsl2 modem (Linksys MUE)". Has your ISP provided either?

Thanks for the quick response Bonk!
I have brought up OP to the current specs using Pestys installer.

I have full control and the manual. I believe the trick is to get the 2 different IPs to match, just not sure how to do that.

I configure the modem via explorer. Its a PPPoA connection so all I do is input my username and password and connection to the internet is achieved. Settings on the LAN connection are auto assign but if I try inputting the same settings as what my provider tells me I loose the connection.

No, no, no. You need to forward the required ports from your public IP address to your local private IP address. Does the manual or your ISP tell you how to do this?

Thanks Bonk! Your the best!!  ;D

The modem does not have forwarding ability, so I installed my router to use its port forwarding function.

I port forwarded the listed ports required for dyna/gsa play but I did not use my external assigned IPs rather my internal IPs as they appear on the c prompt (ipconfig). Unfortunately there is nothing in the modem manual but my router manual has some forwarding details which I used to port forward the dyna ports.

I will also try to port forward my external IP to my internal IP. I believe this is done the same way as above.

Again thanks for the help Bonk, much appreciated.

Oi, you should not need to add your router just to port forward, if you have no other use for it.

If you are not running any firewalls with only the adsl modem connected then it has a firewall or NAT capability that you do not have access to and you must ask your ISP to make the settings for you or provide an alternate modem.

But first, are you sure you have the directory server patch applied?:

Im sure that the directory server patch is in Pestys installer, however I downloaded it via your link and will reinstall tonight.

Sorry, Im getting confused with the whole port forwarding issue. I need to forward the required ports for play, and now I also need to forward the ports for resolving the internal / external IP conflict, which I will experiment with tonight using the router as the modem doent have forwarding capability.

Update! Using port forwarding settings I was able to join games on GSA last night!!

I still get the firewall/proxy message - different int/ext IPs message when trying to host but its a start.
I tried logging on to dyna last night but received the firewall error.

Will play with the settings again but hope to see some of you on GSA in the meantime.

heya Wraith,i don't know if this will help, but  i use to get it(the firewall warning)even though it was turned of(my firewall)but what some one told me to do is to go to  START button,RUN--> type in-->winipcfg,with will bring up IP CONFIGURATION, click on drop down window,it will show--> PPP Adapter(drop down to)-->The PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter
which will show u ip addresses/subnet mask/and default gateway.  CLICK release all(which will bring all stuff to 0's) Then imediately click Refresh all.once ip addresses comes back up,then try to join dyna.i learned this during the last server, and haver not got that firewall warning since.GOOD LUCK/HOPE THIS WORKS FOR U AS IT DID FOR ME

That'll only work if he's still using Windows 98. There is no Windows IP Configuration Tool in XP. Just ipconfig from the command line.
