D2 Admin tools
« on: November 09, 2005, 12:04:18 pm »
Hi all:

I need a copy of both SkullandBonez/BBJones original database cleaner, and a copy of MadElf's database cleaner.  Neither of these seem to be in the download section.

Does anyone have copies of these?

I don't have BBJ's cleaner (didn't know there was one).

But Dave's cleaner is now posted here:
http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/sfc2_op/utilities/EDDBEDIT.zip
(looking for the readme and source...I got it here somewhere...)
edit: ah - here's the original links - still good:
- the editor itself: http://www3.telus.net/NuclearWessels/sfc/downloads/EDDBEDIT.exe
- the zipped source: http://www3.telus.net/NuclearWessels/sfc/downloads/dbeditor_sourcecode.zip

And DarkElf's cleaner is now posted here:
http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/sfc2_op/utilities/SFC2%20OP%20Database%20Cleaner%20105R1.zip

edit: I just put them all here for safe keeping:

Well, phooey!!!!

Evil Dave's db tool includes a wonderful "report" feature that makes it easy for me to go in and make edits manually.  Unfortunately, though this never shows up in my small populace testing, in a real campaign Dave's program stops working on the DB after a random number of days.  I thought I could use his report feature to help with manual edits when the code stops working, but unfortunately it appears that when the edit function stops working then the report function stops working too.   :-\

MadElf's DB cleaner -- based upon past experience -- keeps working all the way to the end of the campaign, but it has no report feature.

Skull/BBJones DB cleaner had a report feature, but I've lost the file.  I also recall -- now that I think about it -- that it was for EAW not OP, so it might not even work.

<Cracks knuckels over his C++ manual>

Looks like it's time for me to stop standing on other's shoulders, get to work, and make my own DB map editor.

That would be too cool!  8)

I remember BBJs old EAW db cleaner now... I might be able to find it in my old backup CDs somewhere....

I used ED's dbcleaner source to produce the flatfile webmap which usually works right through a campaign. (as long as clock run-ups are done properly - which did not happen in SGO5) Let me know if its source might be a help.

I've been editing flatfile maps with the 010 Editor doing find/replace operations to remove/add planets, modify max DVs etc. But a new flatfile editor would be awesome!

Wow! I just finished a madrigal mystery tour of my CD backups.
What a blast from the past...  ;D  we've been at this a while...  :o
I found a bunch of old goodies, BBJ's EAW DB Parser and source among them!
I'll upload the files and post links shortly.

Yes I do!  The D2's first taste of Andromedans, in my first server, The Four Powers War.   I guess you were the one that got the victory points for scanning the "scary aliens"?

I had a lot of fun running that one and I learned a lot too.  I never did get the Hydran vs. Klink mission matching right, and the Klinks suffered as a result.  I'd almost like to do it again sometime now that I know more about how things work.
