It's been a while since my last release. I figured it was time to turn something out. This has been a royal pain in the a**. But I think it was worth the effort. I created the hull plating on these textures from actual pictures I took of brushed steel and aluminum and a picture of titanium i found online. The darkest areas of the plating are from the titanium, the middle shade brushed steel and the light shade found on the bottom of the secondary hull are from brushed aluminum. 95% of the textures I made from scratch. The only things that i borrowed were the deflector dish and intermix shafts (P-81), inboard grill on the nacelle and botanical garden (Willard Decker). The only original textures by Khaliban are the decals, shuttle bay doors, docking rings, running lights, windows and bridge paint. Modified original textures include the impulse crystal and torpedo tubes and other painted areas along the pylons and secondary hull.

Hope you all enjoy her. I look forward to reading your feedback.

Was there any remapping involved? I'd like to release this to the BC'ers who use Khalibans connie.

No remapping was done. These should work with any version of the ship that has the original textures. Feel free to pass it on to them. If you could, please send me a few screenshots of her in BC, as I dont have that game.

There are some faults I have with it.  Namely the registry number; It's too bunched up to the point of overlapping, and the name's outline seems not apparent enough.  I especially noticed this when I compared it with this picture as well as other pictures.  Also, I'm not fond of P81's deflector dish anymore; It looks more, "fake", so to speak, when compared to the model, almost like a blue paper plate rather than a blue glow to a clear dish that I remember the Constitution-class (refit)'s deflector dish as.  I'm also if-iffy on the Intermix Shafts (that blue line on the inner-sides of the warp nacelle pylons?), wondering (when looking at the pictures) if it's supposed to be prominent or not-so (and if so, how much so).

However, those are just minor griefs.  I really like what you did to the textures.  When it's properly lit in-game (your fourth, fifth, and eighth screenshot), it looks very impressive, almost as if it was really metallic, that the model was made out of tritanium.  The illumination maps you gave it are also nicely done.

I remember Khaliban stating that he based his model on the actual Enterprise model and the textures on it from the actual studio model of the Enterprise-A, and I really liked what he had done with it, and still like his textures even after seeing your model.  But you give this model life when you actually make it more metallic-looking, it almost looks as if I were looking at an actual photograph of the Yorktown if she was a starship that appeared in real life.  That illustrates how good it is, regardless of any nitpicks of mine that I have with it.  It still stands out to be one of the best retextures I've ever seen.  Excellent work.

I have a question, though.  Do you have any "blank" textures (as in without the name and registry decals)?  I'd like to have a shot at creating a name and registry decal with what I have on that retexture, if you allow.  If no, then that's alright, I don't mind. *shrug* But if yes, I thank you and it would be appreciated.

Will do. I'll ask some peeps with the high end cards to do some pix. Mine wont look that great because it's turned all the way down, and the monitor has blacked out for a sec a couple tims while doing registries, I dunno if that means my vid card is going or if it's something else, but I'm not going to push things making substandard pix for this thing. I'll let ya know when it's up.

Hey DTW, any chance of you releasing a set of textures without registries, for those folks that wish to do their own?  :-D  Pwease?????

Also, I respectfully request your permission to port this beautiful ship to SFC3.  If you do not have the authority to grant such a request, I respectfully ask anyone who does have the authority for permission.

I'll take that as a compliment. As far as the dish goes, I used P-81's for lack of something better IMO. I took a few attempts at creating my own, but they all lead to hangovers ;D. But I do agree that it has been a little overused and I'll probably make a few more attempts. And as for Khalibans original textures, I think they were vere accurate to the studio model but in more of a "painted" style as opposed to the industrial metallic look of this set.

Last but not least, the blanks. Yes, I do have blank textures. I just wanted to see the how long it took before someone asked :P. My ISP web space is maxed out at the moment, so give me a little while to squeeze out a few more MB so I can upload them.

Glad you all like her.

If there is a SFC3 version of Khalibans original, it should work by just dropping the .mod file into the folder containing the textures. If not you'll have to take up model conversion with him.

Check the Permission's Thread. IIRC only credit is necessary for use of Khaliban's ships.

That....right there......

do you see it?

do you??????????????????

THAT is why I come to see what people in the community have been up to from time to time.

The hull textures on that ship are the BEST I have ever seen on a ship used in a "video game"

I think DTW deserves a *pat on the back* from every one here, especially us "wanna be" texturers  ;)
