Reinstalling the OS is the ignoramous n00b "i wanna be an engineer but don't know what the hell I am doing" response to almost anything.

And yep that describes most of Microsoft's front line engineers.

You are running Windows 98SE Malak ?

 :o

No offense but if you are no wonder your having problems - Win 98SE was the best of the Win95-98 stuff, but it's still buggy as hell !!

umm, yea- I'm still w98se. I've spent years getting to know the bugs, thats why I love it- I KNOW it. It's just weird as nobody has apparently seen this bug (according to MS) and I assume MT never tried what I did by accident. I fixxed it by restoring a registry backup done the day before I originally installed mercs and all the patches. Anyhow it works now (3.0 anyway) and I'm gonna wait a few days to see if MT actually got the bugs out of the bugfix.

Hmm,  looks like the 3.0.1 patch could be eating MS mechpaks.

Myself and a few team mates lost our Clan/IS packs when we updated to the new 3.01 update.

I have tried the following and have been unable to get them back........

1) tried the 2 fixes posted in the MekTek Dowloads

2) tried copying the files from the CD's directly into the CLANPK and ISPAK folder and runing the exe

3) uninstalling the Clan/IS packs and reinstalling them.

a team mate tried a full reinstall of MW4 mers.............lost them when he ran his 3.01 update again.

Heres the thread: http://www.mektek.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=45559

If you lost yours heres the link for the fixxes. Get the bottom 2 files: http://fasastudio.com/games/mechwarrior4/Downloads.htm?c00=0

Malak, you'd do well to get up to XP, really. The memory management (or really lack thereof) of Win98(SE or not) is best used to frighten small children. (Translation: It's got a memory leak big enough to drive a Mac Truck through.) Though you might want to wait to switch until after MS releases SP3 for XP. (Heh. After they swore up and down that XP was finished, but then released not one, but TWO service packs.  ::) )

I'm with ya there Crimmy, XP is too much OS for me.  I need dos support- I actually load up dos drivers for my sound board in w98 because the win drivers suck. Besides, XP likes to hide files on me and they've taken the user accounts to a new level of confusion (for me). I don't need that, or the HT stuff. W98se tho clumsy at times has served me well for years and I'm used to it's quirqs unlike XP where I'm occasionally lost doing routin things. I also wanna know more about all these service packs, sheesh- number 3 already ??

Pffft !

I used ME for 6 years...never reformated or reloaded the OS.

Once I get some time playing with this new computer which has XP MCE '05,  I'm going to re-format the old machine and clean her out (get the porn off), and give it to my nephew, so he can enjoy ME for years to come !!   ;)

                                                    Wraith 413

If not that ... then "Nail 'em Hard Inc" ...   for the way they screw up the most popular games until someone comes up with an appropriate patch or new "direct-X" to correct the "improvements" they've made from one OS to another.

One of my favorite games is (was) Descent-3 ...   I have finally found a new site that hopefully has a new patch.  It's been 2 years since we've been able to use the game.

To top that off ..  my Saitek dual controller now has new issues ...  (Just started with the last Mech Warrior up-date) ..   OY !  It never ends !
If you aim at nothing:  you WILL hit it every time !
