Some like a totally open type server, others a very restrictive server, and some a ballance (although the perfect balance is different for most players). So why don't we try a server that caters to all.
The basic idea would be to have the map divided into say 3 sections.
Area 1 is an area that is for a totally open style, ie. no disengagement rule, no PvP VCs, fly what you want, combine any ships you wish, fly up to three ships, etc. This section would make up 50% of the map and have relatively low DVs and an innovative map setup.
Area 2 is an area that is controlled by a tight OOB, fleeting rules and CnC in full effect, an extended disengagement radius, PvP VCs even for disengagements, etc. This would make up 25% of the map and have higher DV values.
Area 3 is an area that parallels most current servers with an OOB for total heavy metal online at once, a standard disengagement penalty, PvP Vcs for kills of capital ships only, etc. This area would make up the final 25% of the map and have DV values on hexes halfway between the other two areas. Maybe stick a slot restricted to smaller ships only in this zone as well.
Players could move their ships between zones, but would have to follow the rules of the zone they were in.
The team that wins 2 out of the three zones would be declared the winner.
For roleplay purposes we could say it was a contest conducted by an advanced race on the lines of the TOS episode "Arena" just on a larger scale, or perhaps by the Gamesters of Triskellon as they were found of designs that were three sided.
