Dungeons and Dragons

Was a really cheesy movie, but apparently not too cheesy for the SciFi Channel to make a sequel:

Premiers Sunday Nov 6 at 9 PM Eastern

Actually, some good looking SciFi Original movies this month.

British Marines Vs. Werewolves looks good, as do the Farscape movie.

It's a repeat.  I saw it a few weeks back.  I had low expectations because of the cheesey original, but I was pleasantly surprised and rather liked it.  It is definitely worth watching.

I saw Dog Soldiers a couple of years back.  It's got a lot of predictable plot points in it (in a werewolf movie, certain things just *have* to happen)  but I enjoyed this one too.  There is one plot point at the end I never did understand.   Maybe I'll ask your opinion afterwards if you watch it.

There is also an Matrix easter egg.  Watch for the line, "There is no spoon".  ;)

I saw it a few weeks back as well.  It actually wasn't half bad...If it had been the first to come out in theaters instead of the first...the movie might have made...well maybe 25 million instead of like 12 million (actually not positive on the numbers, but just as an example...it was much better than the original...but I wouldn't say it was great type of example).

Yeah It wasn't too bad, Then again, I also thought the Original wasn't too bad, But should have never been named D&D. Then again, I Have Man thing on my rental list at BB online, so what do I know.  ;)

heh, I keep eyeing Man Thing on the shelf at Hollywood, but I just can't bring myself to even pick up the box.  I saw both of the old ones, and they left scars.  Very deep scars (although Heather Locklear does tend to take some of the edge off of a movie like that). ;)

Yes the Sci-Fi rendition is much closer to D & D and what the origiinal should have been.

I think your thinking of Swamp thing Old Friend. Man thing was very similiar, But what he touched caused the person to Tremble with Fear.

We halfway agree, except I think the orignal SHOULD have been closer to what Lord of the Rings was.

Oh, man!  I can't believe I got those two confused!  It's been a long time since I even stepped foot in a comic shop so...  Still, I keep eyeing that video (maybe the horror of the Swamp Thing movies won't swing over to the Man Thing then. Maybe I'll finally have to muster up the bravery to check it out. ;))

Dog Soldiers ROXXORS!!1!1!!11!

It is not, however, a SciFi original....  IIRC, it was a British film that didn't make a ripple on this side of the pond until it was on SciFi....

The director said it in a documentary about it:

(I am paraphrasing) 'We didn't make a werewolf movie with soldiers.... we made a soldier movie with werewolves'

They did cover and fire!!! They covered each others back.  They picked on each other like siblings but backed each other up when it came down to it.

The D&D movie was not all that bad.

I really could have done without having everything explained to me like they were reading it out of one of the books.... and really, didn't you kill your great mage enemies?

I always did....   bad mojo to leave a pissed off wizard alive.... I don't want a sequel with a repeat villian.... ;D

I did however love the special effects, it wasn't too cheesy... unlike the first one...

All in all, I liked it.

Actually, when I planned to kill a wizard over level 5, I killed him, cut off his head, and buried the parts on opposite sides of a moving stream of water.  :D

I thought the movie was kind of dumb, it was kind of nice to pick out the items from the game but I didn't see much else of value in the movie.  As long as they go for the "save the princess/world" type of movie plot line, I don't see this franchise going to far.  What gets me is that TSR realized this back in the late '80's (when it was TSR), so why use a plotline they know won't work in a movie??!?  If D&D movies are to succeed then they need stories like Drizzit series, then again some actors that can actually act would be nice too.   ::)

Drizzt... man that would be the Quentin Tarantino version of a D&D film.
