Star Wars Battlefront 2 ships today
« on: October 31, 2005, 01:06:52 pm »
Hadn't bought the original due to lack of space combat.  Now it's in and I am chomping at the bit.  I hope my local store will have it as I have not pre-ordered.

System Specs:

I got a free copy with a letter written on Lucasfilm Ltd. letterhead...and signed by Rick McCallum's personal assistant.

Really disappointed in it.  The game is a snore.  Space combat is lame online.  Two capital ships, capture the flag, etc.  None of the scale of the movie battles.  The tagline is "Fight the battles the way you want", I think.  This is not the way I want.  The first-person shooter aspect is a bunch of grenade throwing, side to side strafing, kamikaze silliness.  None of the sobriety of a galactic conflict.  Just a bunch of twitchy characters.  Wish I had never bought it.  Ebay it, I suppose, although I have never sold anything there.

I'm playing it and enjoying it.  The space battles are actually the best since X-wing Alliance.  You need to play assault?  (whichever one it isn't in capture the flag) more where you destroy systems or the ships for points.

It's funny how many want to play bombers, and make themselves easy targets.

The game is a total waste.

Won't even run on my computer.  Check out the forums...  Tech support has no idea whats wrong, they stopped posting to help people with troubles.

So I'm waiting for a patch.... For like a month now... What a waste of money.

Oh, I've played assault plenty of times.  It just gets boring.

Strat what was the problem you ran into?

Check out support.lucasarts.com. Go to the forum support for BF II. I have the same trouble as the other thousand that have posted there. Mysterious crashes to desktop at random times.

So many people having the trouble and the forum Mod doesn't even help.

Does the Mod even find solutions? No. He stickies what OTHER people have found. WHAT, ARE THE END USERS THE LA TECH SUPPORT? I'm sure they are making a patch. But they don't even mention its or that they are making one.

As you read through the forums you learn that so many are having identical trouble that it's not me. Some have been able to fix it by turning off sound. HAH. I, was not so fortunate.

As you can tell by my rant, I'm very, VERY displeased with Lucas Arts, or Pandemic right now. Total waste of $50.

Ah, yes, I think that's part of one of the Bugs I noted in the Beta which they didn't seem to take as seriously...in the Beta it continuously showed up right around a Utapau map.  It now shows up in other portions of the game now that the game is released.

Part of that is how the game works with the RAM on your computer...OR it also is that they put a little bit of code that doesn't really cooperate with machines that have set a DVD hack or has the ability to do certain things with that on people's machine and you're right, there is no work around that I know of for those items.

There is one other item...not certain if it would apply to you...you wouldn't happen to have an Ati card, or an older (pre-2003) video card in general would you?

NVidia 6600GT

I just dont know.  I don't even know what a DVD hack is.

But its like you said. I wasa watching the beta forums from the start.  People reported all kind of problems and never seems to be a respose or technivcal support from LA.  Seems to me it was a publicity stunt only.

DVD hack is where you mount the DVD onto the hard drive.  aka, you have the entire game copied via as a DVD or CD onto the drive to either install, or have it check for security checks on the drive without ever having to put in the DVD.

It isn't your card...guaranteed unless you are using old drivers (we're talking pre 71.xx releases).  In fact if anything it will deal with what you have on your hard drive or what your DVD or CD drive is.
