"We are badly in need of flexible vaccines programs," said Erik Henchal, a former commander of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, which aims to keep U.S. troops healthy and combat biowarfare threats.

Henchal said the current production system requires researchers to handle live influenza viruses, a dangerous procedure that DNA vaccines promise to eliminate if successful.

Way too cool, especially since they manipulated mice genes to make them NOT drink alcohol after getting them severely addicted. The success rate was well over 80%, and that beats anything out on the market today, including Alkermes anti-alcohol drug Vivitrex, which is a once a month injection and is currently pending FDA approval before the end of December after being put on fast track status earlier this year.

RNA therapy in many illnesses is already a reality too.

On a side note, look at how well these companies performed around 2000, and if this stuff keeps getting better, they very well could skyrocket in stock value. I know that I would MUCH prefer a DNA or RNA treatment for an illness instead of eating pills for the rest of my life and having all kinds of side effects.
