Name for new TMP BB
« on: October 21, 2005, 08:49:07 am »
I've been working on a new TMP styled BB ...  I'd like to use the name "USS Missouri" in honor of the recently retired US Battle Ship.

It seems as though there was someone who did on by that name ..  but I can not for the life of me remember what ship ...  or era it was done in.

Any one remember?

The USS Missouri was a Missouri-class TMP BB in Klingon Academy. It was different from the Yamato, however..Very different.

I dont have any screenshots, perhaps if someone is around who could grab some.

thanks bud ..  I really need to see some picts.  It may be that we proceed with this operation ... and simply do this as a refit of a sort.

Still ...  it would be better to have as much information as possible up front in  order to do this right !

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

WZ I believe currently has an unfinished Missouri, with WIP shots over at his cemetary (forums).

Why not try Lincoln class, or Roosevelt class, or perhaps find the name of a very famous ship or person in history, for which a starship hasn't been named for.  Might work.
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.

I might have to ..   BUT that would not be my first choice.  (personal and historical reasons)

thanks just the same for the input.

After further review,  I have decided that:

1.  There is such a dramatic difference between mine and WZ's model  that I will proceed with the BB  Missouri unless...

2.  There is another one already built as a TMP version that should supersede this one.

what about the USS Nevada, if you want to go on the states course. Or the USS Lousiana, in honour of victims of Katrina.

Since im from New Jersey, i would always enjoy a ship named the New Jersey, but yeah, what-have-you.

Up to you.

The USS Missouri...

Hope that helps out a bit.

And if it's battleship names you want, South Dakota and North Carolina are both excellent ones. A 14-year old who lied about his age won the Navy Cross on the South Dakota one night at Guadalcanal, IIRC, for pulling his wounded Admiral off the bridge after a Japanese 15" shell exploded agianst the armor of the conning tower.

Thanks guys for the in-put ..

The main reason that I chose the Missouri is because it was one of the last BB's in service.  It was never destroyed.  It was, in fact, used in the 1st Gulf war.

Can someone hook me up with a MOD copy of this ....  or at least where I can get one.  I'm at work so I dont have a MOD viewer  (I'll need one of those too).

Sorry I'm such a royal pain .. but if we do this we are going to do it right ( or at least try our best to).

thanks in advance for the continued assistance.

I believe Moonraker ported a Missouri-class BB for SFC2 usage, and modified the textures a bit for his own style of name and registry number.  You can find it here.

If you ask me, however, considering Starfleet involves a united Earth, why not take something that's not from the Second World War, or a name of a ship that isn't necessarily from the United States?  I'd hate to think Earth was 90% Americans from only judging by the various names of Starfleet ships.  Or better yet, why not think up of a unique name from another world that's a member of the U.F.P.?  That's even rarer (Is "rarer" a word, by the way?).  You can still go with Missouri (even though it's already used), it's your model after all, but I just wanted to throw in my two cents.

Thanks bud ..

good thoughts on the subject.

All to be taken into consideration before placing the name on this new BB we've began to develop.

I saw the ship ..  and like WZ's ...  I guess I'll never understand why someone used a glorified Miranda with a "ship hull" underneath it for a BB.

(shurgs)

Oh well ...   just more stuff to think about !

PS...

all input at this point to be reviewed for consideration ...

thanks again !

OY !

thanks Diz ...   but I think I might just pass that one up !

LOL !

I have just finished a review on US BB history ..  ( more like a brief scan) ..  BUT it seems there were a total of 4 BB's named Missouri....  ( several BB's in fact have multiple productions).  The Alabama was another one with multiple releases ..  and one with an interesting history to consider .... as well as the Iowa.

The bottom line is ... we could very easily do another BB for TMP ...  and as long as we are in the "mood" to do BB's ... we could also do one in TNG for good measure ... and also call it "USS Missouri (refit)" and not take away from anything that has already been done.

(Let me think this over a bit more!)

thanks

Bearing in mind that today is the 200th Anniversary of the battle of trafalgar, could the vessel be named the Victory. Lets face it Royal Naval vessels get gipped how can a constelation class be good enough to be named USS Victory.

LOL... THANK YOU for even considering that name. Being as I live in Alabama, and visit the former BB-60 Alabama at least once every year or so, I'm a bit partial to it. ;D Alabama has actually been one of the most prolific ship names in US history. Also, it was the name of the single most successful surface raider of the Age of Sail... but of course, that Alabama belonged to us Rebs. The Union called her "the Black Ship of the Confederacy" and even refered to Simmes as the 'most prolific pirate in history.' ;D She captured or sank some 63 ships in only 2 years!

Monroeville?

I aught to have heard of it... being as I went to school at the Jr. College there for two years. I sang in the choir. I lived in Frisco City while I was there. My cousin is in Monroeville at school right now- also in the choir there- and living in Greentree Appts.

I don't get back there too much, though. Lots of people down Excel way don't like me... something about a ruined wedding. I never caught the whole story, though; it was tough to make it out with that girl's tounge in my ear all the time. ;D

As for the memoribillia from the Big Al, I don't have any. Sorry, but it's harder than hen's teeth to come across something that's not stolen, and if I catch anyone stealing from her... well, the Mobile County Sherriff's department will be the least of his worries- I got a carry permit, a Glock, and a wonderfully accurate double-tap. Stealing from the Big Al is robbing everyone in the State.

PS: Not to break your heart, but I live in Auburn now. I don't go to the school, but I like the town far better than I liked Tuskaloosa.

I think Missouri us a fine name, but I've always like starships with the more heroic, descriptive names like the Constitution class... Enterprise, Intrepid, Defiant, etc.  Or even some of the (don't hit me) non-cannon names for the Imperial Star Destroyers of SW fame... like Relentless, Indominatble (sp?), Avenger (I guess that is cannon).

The Lincoln suggestion is interesting too.  How about something like USS Emancipator?  Or USS Emancipation?

I was born in Monroville.  Both my parents are orinally from very small towns not too far from there.  And yes we still have family there as well.

We'll I can think of a few interesting finnish words for... things. Like with the UFO thing I bashed 'Vempele', the name basically translates to 'some sort of a machine thingy' :P

Murskaaja (Crusher)
Repija (Tearer)
Rintama (frontier)

I was under the impression this model was a better version of the Yamato ? Why not call it Yamato ?

It will be a different hull design ...  HOPEFULLY to correct some of the difficulties with the Yamato design.  A few of these are:

1. Awkward placement of the shuttle bay.

2. The location of the HUGE impulse engines should actually create difficulties for the twin hulls (around the impulse area).

3.  Placement of the weapons pods and phaser banks are awkward for true TMP (or any other era for that matter) firing arcs.

I should have a WIP this afternoon.  I will have to post a request for bashing the Enterprise and Odysseuss models from Nanners GAW MOD first.
