Diz, since Andrew in 92 they have greatly increased the building code requirements for homes, grading the risk by their proximity to the shoreline, likely areas for canes to strike, etc. They are now required to use steel to tie the roof of the house to the foundation to help reduce roof losses, etc. Of course, when a cat 5 comes thru, unless you have a steel ball bearing or the like, its gonna get squashed. BTW, most of the damage (such as with Katrina) came from the storm surge. Sure, 175 mph winds, if they actually came ashore would be devastating to all but the strongest of structures, but those winds would be like a fart in a bathtub compared to the 30-50 wave of water that they are saying came ashore in Biloxi, etc.
But yeah, a solid aircraft aluminum house about 5" thick with transparent aluminum windows and 20' stilts couldnt hurt, lol.
