U.S.S. Leyte Gulf NCC-74840
United Federation of Planets
Leyte Gulf-class cruiser

------------
The Leyte Gulf class cruiser was constructed with common components to both the Galaxy and Nebula class cruisers.
This was seen as logical due to the interchangeability of components between the ship classes, and also so that personnel trained to operate one class of ship could easily adapt to the others.
When the Leyte Gulf was being designed, there was discord among the top brass at Starfleet as to whether it should primarly be a scientific vessel or a combat vessel.
This discord existed as a result of the Borg incursion, and strained relations with the Cardassian Empire.
The design of the Leyte Gulf was one that pleased both sides - the upper pod could be used to house any combination of sensors of weapons, and hardware in the pod could be swapped out at any starbase.
It also employs separable saucer and drive sections, which not only keep non-combatants safe in times of trouble but also increase the offensive capabilites of the drive section.
It was also fitted with high dissipation shileds to increase its defensive capabilities.

What gets the pod above the saucer on the physical model is much higher placement of the warp nacelles--looks like they're at the same height as the widest section of the saucer...

They are in the reference picture.  In MAX, just make the mesh editable, select only the nacelles plus a portion of the pylon, and move them up.  This causes a stretching effect, leaving the unselected portions of the mesh unaffected.

I have no way of doing that bro, I don't have MAX.

Milkshape should also be able to do the same job easily.  What you do is select the engines and part of the pylons like you would if you were gonna tear them off the model for use in a kitbash, and then use the move tool like you would to move a piece into place.  That should stretch the selected part of the mesh and not touch the other parts.

Just out of curiosity, do you do TMP models?

Never really fond of TNG and onward to be honest...

I was just asking in general. There's a lot of TNG stuff floating around here, and I've noticed most of your bashes (outside of the three multi-nacelle ones (Where did they go anyway??) seem to be leaning more towards TNG.

I profess that I'm a TOS-TMP fan, and given the choice I'd toss TNG altogether and start ST right where ST:IV left off. B&B screwed up the universe in a big way, and the only way I can see to erase the damage is make a clean start.

Should I make a request fourm for this? Otherwise, the Sacajawea looks nice...
