SFC 3 Nebulae--what the?
« on: October 04, 2005, 01:54:47 pm »
Hello, all you wise and wonderful people.  I am entirely puzzled about the nebulae in SFC 3.  Even when there is nothing around my ship for miles I keep getting crew members screaming that we're "on a collision course!"  What is out there that I could hit?  As far as I can see, and as far as the radar shows, there is absolutely nothing around me that I could possibly hit.  Is this a glitch?  I've even had my shields run down by "hitting" these invisible objects.  Can anyone help?

(Whoever designed SFC 3 should have all his eyebrow hair plucked out with a Romulan Mind-Sifter!)

I think if you get close to certain parts of the nebula, they can cause damage to your ship if you get too close.  SFC OP has similar effects with its terrain aswell, like getting too close to a sun in a senario.

Good to know.  Is there any way of spotting them on that little radar screen in the top corner?  Other than that, is there any way of putting tactical "tags" on objects and/or ships like in SFC 2/OP?

Thanks for answering!  (Cloak and arm plasma!)

Not that I'm aware of.  At least I haven't found a way to see hazardous terrian like that in SFC3.

Top down, eh?  I'll have to give that a try.  Usually I just forfeit nebula missions since I can't seem to get room to manoeuvre.  Thanks for the tip.

The game warns you if you are heading for a collision with Planets, asteroids, or radiation bursts within a nebula. If you don't see anything on your tactical screen, don't sweat it too much. It usually is only a problem if your in a Saber or other small ship with weak shields. Within the SFC configuration file, you can turn off these warnings. But you'll then have to be very wary of getting to close to planets and especially asteroids. My advise;  live with it or turn down your voice volume setting.

At the top of the configuration settings file, look for this:

[Game]
DeathCam=1
BorderAlert=1
CollisionAlert=1
DifficultyLevel=0
AutoFilm=1
TargetDirection=1
RaceShieldFX=1

Change the CollsionAlert value to zero.

BTW, if your RaceSheildFX is set at zero, changing it to 1 will give each race its own color
when struck by weapons fire.
