Diz

Will try to use the colours to post ship types and kills (provided I remember) --
In addition if you look at page 2 of this thread you will see a post by Chutt about our battle -- planet assult Diz and Chutt kill ShadowLord but Chutt died -- so thats why i mentioned it had already been posted -- didnt want to have it claimed twice..

GG last night see  you in space.

What was the point of me spending ~8 hours writing this script:

http://www.dynaverse.net/webmap_sg_ff/kills.php

some kind of cruel joke to keep Bonk busy and out of trouble?

Now that it works, the kills will be entered there AFTER the 1st PvP cycle on Fri at 8pm central. Or something, have to confirm that time.

Remember, Bonk the kills page wasnt working for a few days, so we just posted them here. But I'll be damned if Im gonna go thru thios thread and pick out the kills like I did last server... and spent 16 hours inputing the info... (Im a slow typer) Kills page is an awesome tool, and we will use it.

Bonk, was looking at it... what do you think about adding a second field/line so we could input 2 names in one kill? If you look, there are a lot of battles that were 2v2 and 2v1's. Be easier to identify what battle was what rather than figuring out who to post the claim for a kill and who to leave out. What do u think?

The kills page was working the whole time. Somebody moved the server folder, thus the db location, which caused the kills page to be unable to find the server db. The script has not changed the whole time. Somebody unaware of the shared autosave folder moved the serverkit and did not share the autosave folder again.

Just to be clear, that my code did not fail. There is no way to account for somone killing the share on the autosave folder.

I considered that, but only one person makes the kill, as I saw it at the time. This way keeps it simple in my view. If I start development work on it again while it is live people will assume it is not working... maybe for next time we can look at that.

Actually, there is nothing to stop people from entering 2 or more names in the Victor Name box - it will accept up to 45 characters, but the wider column may not display well on 1024x768 and lower resolutions.

Yup, I just tested an entry like so:

Quote
Gorn Confederation   TestVictor01, TestVictor02   T-Test, T-Test2   Romulan Star Empire   TestVictim01   T-Test3   1   Captured   2269.128

and it worked fine. (I then removed it from the db)

It sounds like you have security issue here. Too many cooks in the kitchen with too many big spoons that can splash the soup all over the place.

You may want to look into restricting access to your web site stuff on the HDD to those that have a legitimate reason to adjust it.

That should alleviate some of the frustration. We have to do this at work all the time to enforce proper process and oversight on production box changes.  Otherwise, all the developers would be running amok like a bunch of wild-eyed Capital One Visa Card Vikings pillaging the production servers and databases like it's orgy time.  Then the customers are wondering what happend to the production applications (ie. it's up, it's down, it's round, it's working, it's busted, it's this, it's that, etc.).

Hey TT, I was flying a D6DB against those two L-CFs, not a D6V.  I was hoping to use the planets to my advantage and maybe run one of ya into the planet, but ya both caught me and overran my arse...  gg  Look forward to the next meeting.

The website does have restricted access. The file affected is located on the SGO5 server host (THOR). There is a folder on that machine that is shared (the flatfile autosave folder - hidden and read only shared locally to authenticated users only) - the webmap hosted on LOKI reads the flatfile database from the shared folder on THOR. Someone (I suspect Frey) moved the location of the SGO server folder on THOR, thus removing the share on the autosave folder. Whoever did this did not touch the webserver at all. Only MrCue and I are currently editing files on the Dynaverse.net webserver and communicate everything we do. But thanks for your input anyway, too many cooks in the kitchen can indeed be a problem sometimes.

I am currently working on determining how the flatfile was corrupted/altered and adjust the flatfile webmap script so it can read the map table in the db again.

The kills page will remain unaffected. The change in the db comes later than it reads.

Karnak, it was ME, and I was getting the Process Sentinal back up and running so people would stop complaining about the time it took to restart the server because we've restricted access to the degree that there are only a few people who have direct access to the server itself.

I appreciate your constructive criticism and will endeavor to develop better methodologies that comply with your perspective of reality.

in a hard fought match between bearslayer in a hydran lb vs mutt in a gorn ff and  t t in a lyran cf,bearslayer went to a warriors death.he got pestered by mutt, with his lone f plasma and became inpatient, firing his helbore at the gorn allowing me to fly in without the fear of that weapon.bearslayer seeing me move at high speed, attemtped to run, seeing his folly (impatirnces)and was peppered with overloaded dizzies,to rear shield as well as phaser fire.he deployed his shuttles before i could hit and run his shuttle bay,and by the time he got to fighters,i had him tractored.then end came swift.well flown bearslayer.your frustration with  the gorn was my friend....  gh gl

My F-CF and Dizzy's F-DNL  engaged t00l's H-LGE, Bear's H-DE and Farfarrer's K-D5

The D5 died, t00l and bear withdrew.
