SGO V Kills and Roleplay Thread: Round One
« on: October 07, 2005, 01:07:50 pm »
When a PvP kill is scored, please go here:  Kills Page and fill in the blanks. Please also use this thread for author confirmation (please match the stardates on the kills page with the post u make here) and fun roleplay. Thanks and good hunting!

mdesarno's R-KR and risky's I-CLW killed my F-CL+ 2265.40 or so. I think I was the first kill of the server... hehehe 1 PvP point awarded.

Tried the kills page but some fields don't work and I didn't know all the information.  Not sure if this kill report counts, either, because terrain collisions took them both but, here goes...

I was helping defend 16,26.  I got drafted into a PvP vs Kirk and Ternado.  My erstwhile allies did not make an appearance for some reason, so I was alone.  I don't know the Stardate but I would say it was around 1 or 2am Central Time.  I was in a R-KR and they were both in F-CAs.

I thought I was in trouble, but the map was a dense asteroid field with a black hole, so I decided to run into the asteroid field and try to split them up, hoping that I could at least pick one of them off, or that one would crash into a rock.  Plus they might take damage from the dust.  I entered the field, weapons charging, with as much ECM as I could while still going fairly fast, around speed 18-20.  I had to slow a little more to avoid dust damage, myself.  This allowed them to close on me somewhat.

They gave chase and I went around through the rocks clockwise for a while, cutting through them as close as I could, until the Feds were separated a bit.  I then pounced and made a pass on one of them then, just outside of the main asteroid field, and on the opposite side of it from the black hole.  I messed up and didn't do any damage for some reason, maybe he launched a WW.  I didn't see one though, and my torpedoes vanished into his shields as if they were pseudos.  They were definitely expended, though.  I didn't have time to worry about that, since the other cruiser was closing fast and I had taken damage from the exchange.

One of my front shields was down.  I tried to get some distance and moved off and they gave chase, firing.  One cruiser got some good hits with proximity fused photons, but my shields held at weak levels.  I turned and headed away from the asteroids, trying to get distance.  The chase continued, with their phasers wearing down my shields.  At this point, my rear shields were mostly down and I had taken some internals but nothing requiring more than one or two repairs.  But, my weapons were charged again.  I made a high energy turn directly on my pursuers and overran one [not sure which but probably Ternado] and made a good strike with 2 Pl-Gs and 3Ph-Is, blowing down his front shield and doing minor internal damage.  I dumped the 4 rear ph-IIs into his rear shield as I passed by, but it was mostly for my crew's morale, as I could not penetrate that shield.  I kept going past them both as fast as I could, back to the the asteroids again.

The Federation cruisers turned and gave chase, firing phasers and gaining on me.  I reached the asteroids intact, though.  On my way in, Kirk was right behind me blasting away.  After he shot at me with a salvo, I hit him with a transporter bomb just before entering the asteroids.  I entered the field between two fairly close rocks and dropped a nuclear mine.  Kirk followed me in and got past the mine without detonating it.  I took a starboard turn, trying to wind my way deviously into the rocks, and dropped a regular mine to make Kirk pay for following me.  He tried to go around this one also, but crashed into an asteroid and was destroyed.

At about this time, Ternado entered the asteroid field, but he was more careful.  Still, this caused him to set off my nuke.  Meanwhile, I exited the field and circled around it toward the black hole.  I went around it clockwise on the side opposite the main asteroid field and my remaining opponent, Ternado.  He followed me at about speed 17 trying to cut me off, but must not have noticed the black hole and was tragically pulled into it.

Next time I will try to record the Stardate, some more detailed info like damage stats and will write a more formal report to the Praetor.

I played for many hours, and literally had a blast.  This was my first MP Dynaverse experience.  Two players were especially kind to me and helped me out a lot.  They were a20 and Dib.  I will definitely be back to play more.  Especially Monday, so Kirk and Ternado, that will be your chance for revenge!

Edit:  The Stardate on this should be 2265.103.

But it is an option on the kills page, if we can get it to work, hehe.

I'd say no they shouldn't ,far too easy to do in some ships, let alone multiples of some of the ships with large transporter capacity

Becuase I dont know where else to put this, kudos to Gornietoad for a long and great game, which I wish we could have ended. I hate that we got interrupted. It was starting to turn interesting. Hopefully we'll get a chance to refly it during an earlier timeslot so my Virus scan doesnt lock up the game. In all probability you woulda forced me off but it would have been close.

Kills page back up with the webmap (someone moved the server folder thus disabling the webmap, I have reshared the autosave db folder so that the webmap will work again).

Um..that Webmap doesn't look ANYTHING like the campaign map...and yes, I checked, it's on the "Empire" not "Cartel".

I just noticed that, I have never seen it do that before. I double checked the code, it is correct.

Either somone has edited a hex incorrectly, or the db cleaner removed something it shouldn't have. I'm pretty sure I've used the map on cleaned flatfile dbs before and it was OK...

Have any manual hex edits been attempted?

Dib, please explain how you are confused by the kills page, I thought it should be pretty self explanatory - each box is labelled as to what you should enter....

um like nothing appeared in the drop downs...

That was because somebody moved the server folder without resharing the autosave folder. Check it now. (My code is fine - someone moved the file it was looking for)

As far as I know, Bonk, only you and I are capable of doing manual edits who have access to the SG5 server, and I have done no manual edits myself, and I'm assuming nor have you, so there have been no manual edits done.  :)

rgr, thanks Tracey, so the database cleaner must have removed an object it shouldn't have. (the flatfile webmap only decodes up to the end of the map table - the character and ship tables are later - where the cleaning should happen... so it has removed/modified something it shouldn't have... question is what?... hmmmm...)

yo--

Good for the alliance if that is the total...However there is still time left  :)

Did you award a VP point to ShadowLords Kill of Chutt ? already posted battle of
Dizzy and chutt vs Duck in his CM at the base.. they killed my CM -- (yea I got gready with blood lust on a damaged Diz and went out after him... ) however while flying the base I killed Chutt which should be worth a point as he was a fleet unit at that time (note once again this is a question of an already made post just confirming they get a point for my ship death and I get a point for a cheap ass FF kill that was part of a fleet unit )

Second point kill --

KHH_ShadowLordF and TR0 killed -- 9th kirk

ShadowLord was in a  ISC cm ? TR0 was in a Krc -- Kirk was in a GSc+? It was a heavy ca hull with a few crap fighters -- Can confirm the type when I get home if needed -- DO NOT BELIVE IT WAS A CARRIER  -- can the GS carry any fighters?

GCS+ has two fighters.

And all I did to get that total was take all the kills in the this thread, saying that an alliance kill was +1 a coalition kill was -1.  Just basic total of all the stuff reported.  Nothing fancy with VCs and what not.

Just a question, I don't want to start a flame war over this, are keeping the kill pages from before the restart?

IIRC, Coalition was up 25-12 there. So if we are using those tallies, we are only down 1.

Either way, I need to start getting on more and adding to the tally. ;D

Tracey, your L-CF loss has been avenged. My F-DNL destroyed Bearslayer's H-RNF and captured Farfarer's D5 in a battle that went down to the last shuttle Tbomb and phaser.

Excellent game... I love those matches that keep you on the edge of your seat fighting for your life. This was just such a match, a battle that up to the very ending could have swung either way.

Oh, and arnt AI just incredibly stupid? Lot's of help they were... haha.

Bear requested the film. Here ya go: http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/Film_Room/DizFDNLvsFarD5-BearH-RNF.rec And its quite good.

I think that pick must have been of t00l in his initial cheerleading efforts Frey as that creature looked strange enough to bve a Hydran or the love child of an ISC Hydran union.  I don't mind the attempt its all in good fun but at least pick an appropriate picture.

I would have suggested this one

instead of Freyina 762's pic

Agave's G-BF and KATCR's Z-BF destroyred Shin32nd's KRC

Afterwards Shin32nd's KRC was towed off the map before the ducktape holding the ship unravelled after he challanged KATCR's BF to a solo grudge match.  It was a good fight.

Now that it works, the kills will be entered there AFTER the 1st PvP cycle on Fri at 8pm central. Or something, have to confirm that time.

Remember, Bonk the kills page wasnt working for a few days, so we just posted them here. But I'll be damned if Im gonna go thru thios thread and pick out the kills like I did last server... and spent 16 hours inputing the info... (Im a slow typer) Kills page is an awesome tool, and we will use it.

Bonk, was looking at it... what do you think about adding a second field/line so we could input 2 names in one kill? If you look, there are a lot of battles that were 2v2 and 2v1's. Be easier to identify what battle was what rather than figuring out who to post the claim for a kill and who to leave out. What do u think?

The kills page was working the whole time. Somebody moved the server folder, thus the db location, which caused the kills page to be unable to find the server db. The script has not changed the whole time. Somebody unaware of the shared autosave folder moved the serverkit and did not share the autosave folder again.

Just to be clear, that my code did not fail. There is no way to account for somone killing the share on the autosave folder.

I considered that, but only one person makes the kill, as I saw it at the time. This way keeps it simple in my view. If I start development work on it again while it is live people will assume it is not working... maybe for next time we can look at that.

Actually, there is nothing to stop people from entering 2 or more names in the Victor Name box - it will accept up to 45 characters, but the wider column may not display well on 1024x768 and lower resolutions.

Yup, I just tested an entry like so:

Quote
Gorn Confederation   TestVictor01, TestVictor02   T-Test, T-Test2   Romulan Star Empire   TestVictim01   T-Test3   1   Captured   2269.128

and it worked fine. (I then removed it from the db)

It sounds like you have security issue here. Too many cooks in the kitchen with too many big spoons that can splash the soup all over the place.

You may want to look into restricting access to your web site stuff on the HDD to those that have a legitimate reason to adjust it.

That should alleviate some of the frustration. We have to do this at work all the time to enforce proper process and oversight on production box changes.  Otherwise, all the developers would be running amok like a bunch of wild-eyed Capital One Visa Card Vikings pillaging the production servers and databases like it's orgy time.  Then the customers are wondering what happend to the production applications (ie. it's up, it's down, it's round, it's working, it's busted, it's this, it's that, etc.).

Hey TT, I was flying a D6DB against those two L-CFs, not a D6V.  I was hoping to use the planets to my advantage and maybe run one of ya into the planet, but ya both caught me and overran my arse...  gg  Look forward to the next meeting.

he kills page was working the whole time.

The website does have restricted access. The file affected is located on the SGO5 server host (THOR). There is a folder on that machine that is shared (the flatfile autosave folder - hidden and read only shared locally to authenticated users only) - the webmap hosted on LOKI reads the flatfile database from the shared folder on THOR. Someone (I suspect Frey) moved the location of the SGO server folder on THOR, thus removing the share on the autosave folder. Whoever did this did not touch the webserver at all. Only MrCue and I are currently editing files on the Dynaverse.net webserver and communicate everything we do. But thanks for your input anyway, too many cooks in the kitchen can indeed be a problem sometimes.

I am currently working on determining how the flatfile was corrupted/altered and adjust the flatfile webmap script so it can read the map table in the db again.

The kills page will remain unaffected. The change in the db comes later than it reads.

Hey, I helped you with my free tractor!

Actually, I used my own also... didn't know if anymore pesky SS's would come out.

Plus, I figured once you realized what was happening, you would drop your tractor, realize I was tractoring you, THEN would have to set it to repel giving me a few extra seconds.

In addition, there was the chance you would mess up the 'tractor' and 'repel' option trying to switch them.  I know that b/c I did it in a fire that I lost against TobinDax before the resetr, meant to switch over to tractor from repel, but messed it up.

Result was a dead Bearslayer....

stardate 2270.294 Rocks everywhere, close quarters, the Lyran task force lead by Warp10's BCPp with Hexx's CWLPp and Mutilator's CWLPp encounter Shadowlords' CCY and Toolicus' KCRS The battle was a fire all main batteries on the Capital ships. Lyrans fired on Duck while they kept the heat on Warp10 which was forced off the map. Hexx and I continued to press Shadowlords CCY which was starting to run out of power. After ESG hits at range I manged to get a tractor on Duck. Toolicus came round to assist his wing man. I got a few mines out that finished off the CCY. Toolicus ran my CWLPp into a near by rock. Hexx followed the Rom and chased him off.

Final BCPP (Warp) forced off CWLPP (Mutt) destroyed CWLPP (Hexx) last one standing

Shadowlords' CCY destroyed Toolicus' KCRS forced off

vs

DH's F-CF, Coalition_Killer's F-CS+ and TT's L-BCPp

C_K failed to live up to his name, and got anchored, overrun and popped for his trouble. DH and TT left the map.

Was a quick tempo game we kept at range to void the D5D's drones, and kept fire on Duck, they took turns firing on our switching lead ship. Duck eventually started to take damage and disengaged, Dib was not quite as fortunate as we caught him over the line just before he could jump to warp speed, scratch one D5D. GG gents.

Mazeppa's CCY was intercepted on an ISC planet by my L-BCPp and destroyed. His crew were given safe passage to the planet below in a shuttlecraft. gg maz, not a long battle but intense and action packed. You have enough pp to buy another one shortly. So I dont feel too bad about it.

After two false starts from buggy missions, PCGraakna's R-SHR and RBFJadeFalcon's horribly mauled R-FH-P sent G9thBraxton's G-DNL running, the victors basking in the warm plasma glow of Dizzy-G's destroyed G-BF. GG! [Note: this is a duplicate of an entry to the web map kills database.]

Drafted into a 2 on one, my G-BF found itself facing Shadowlords I-CAY and Kruegs R-SUA. After a cat and mouse game through some rocks, shadowlord asked if I was settting up a bounce. No, I replied to him I was simply waiting for one of them to make a mistake... And when they did, it happened to be after that mission was over and I drafted Krueg when he moved away out of the hex we were all in and now the Coalition can scratch one of their SUA's.

I gave u plus karma in advance, Kaz cuz I just KNOW u are gonna put those kill names and ships in pretty colors in bold.  ;D yeah was a gg. Tracey and I actually didnt feel bad at all after losing that... Had we done two small things differently, the outcome woulda been reversed. But them again, every great match comes down to two small booboo's. ;)

Warp's bcpp destroyed Maxillius's King Eagle in a well fought and fun game. The server went down before the match was over and Maxillius was very honorable and destroyed his ship upon return.
