Slave Girls Test server is UP!
« on: October 05, 2005, 10:01:01 am »
For those of you who do not know, like the Excelsior's transwarp drive, the SQL db we were using wasnt quite ready to work properly, so we will be going back to flatfile, the standard warp engine of SFC. ;)

Test server up tonight, expect a new shiplist d/l. We are confident that all will go well and we will launch on Fri evening or Saturday. But there are still a few lingering issues that need to be tested, namely something Risky found with the Planet Defense mission as ISC I presume. Risky?

I will update this post when the test server goes up.

So hurry up with the shiplist already!  ;D

I'm testing editing the DV 10 hexes to a max DV of 20 with a hex editor(010 Editor - I couldn't get EDDBEDIT to do it...)

Two quick things

1) First off I/We do appreciate all the hard work and effort being done.

2) Please get it up and running for Fri night LOL -- It's a canuck long weekend and my son doesnt have any hockey so I can stay up late -- drink/smoke kill and be killed..

Good luck guys.

I need to do 2 things to the map... Change the 30 DV hexes to 20 and add the HW's for the Cartels. Shiplist is done, gonna test it, do the map, should be done in about an hour or less.

OK, cool, I just did a test find/replace in the db for
find: 4B000000 4B000000 02000000 00000000 0A000000 01000000 0A000000
replace: 4B000000 4B000000 02000000 00000000 14000000 01000000 14000000
which should work, to set the economy 75 DV 10 hexes to a max DV of 20.

I'll redo it once I start a db on the shiplist and map you are sending, then wind up the clock to 2266 and resume a test start at 5.9 minute turns.

I have to free up the phone for a while to talk to a hot potential employer in Toronto today. Also, I have a funeral to go to on Saturday, just so folks know.

I'll check back in a few hours for the new shiplist and map.

Skull used to do this all the time. After starting the server and then saving it, a quick find/replace in a hex editor of the database would take him about 20 minutes to change the maximum DV of all hexes, so they werent stuck on the initial DV as the maximum.

I think settings of 50 and 100 were often used.

2265 Start! hehe.

So you are telling me we I dont need to touch the 30 DV hexes? You are finding all the 10's and changing them to 20? That'd be cool. If thats the case, then I'll have the map and shiplist ready in 15 mins.

2265, 2265, 2265... roger... 2265.  ;)  ;D

Not sure what you want to do with the DV 30 hexes, but I can edit the currently DV 10 hexes to a max DV of 20 with a single-find replace as long as all hexes are still at an economy of 75 as before... (or all hexes at the same economy - just makes the find easier, and more reliable)

k, email away. U may fire up the test server. And just edit from 10 to 20 for max DV. Leave the 5's and 30's alone.

Cool, it will be a bit. I have to log off for a couple hours for this phone call, then it will take 40 minutes to upload the new installer. A little time to setup the server, download, edit the map and upload the db and we're set to test, should be sometime early this evening.

Hey, it's at the players request.. more ships removed, which is more important now I guess, since we won't have the webyards.

Test server up, I think... gonna test a login.

Yup, just logged in OK, boosted a DV 10 hex to 11.

ProcessSentinel still buggered though, be nice to know where it stores its data so I could clear it...

I tried logging in just now but I got stuck.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the SG5 installer to get the updated shiplist file.

I logged in as a Romulan using the ID Markis.  It started me in the top right corner in Federation Space.  The map did not look the same as the web map.  I couldn't see any Romulan spaces on the map, but I figured I'd try to migrate toward somewhere safer and clicked on an adjacent hex.  I got a mandatory mission, but I had an additional Patrol mission.  I picked that one, hoping it would be more survivable.  The mandatory mission was Instigator, which I am not familiar with yet.

As soon as I got to the combat screen, I got a Mission Successful message, but then I got hung up.  I waited a few minutes, but it didn't look like I would be able to get out.  I couldn't do anything, so I pressed Alt+F4 and exited the game.

Hope I didn't screw anything up.  Please alert me if I am doing anything wrong, was I supposed to select Instigator instead?

Sounds like you accidently joined "Strayy's Tavern Server.
It has no security protocols so you can join with any shiplist. You crashed because you didn't have the missions and/or models for that server.
It's a common mistake that many players have made at one point or another.  ;)
Just be sure to have the Slave Girls server highlighted before joining the server.  ;D

Its up now... I tested adding a planet, it worked, but oddly the server crashed betweeen the time I started it, checked the forums and logged in. I just pasted in my edited db again and started it again, just logged in OK. I suspect it crashed as someone logged in before it had started completely the first time... I hope... going to go login again.
