Fighter pilot mutiny
« on: October 02, 2005, 06:01:00 pm »
If I wanted to get my Mirak fighters to shoot drones at a planet, how would I do that?  I have tried the different fighter commands, and they wont get close.  Dont get me wrong, they shoot the crap out the planet with their P-III's (at range 15), and that must be very motivational, but I am looking for a little more firepower than that.  I am about ready to start offering monetary career incentives.  Anything I can do before I try something that drastic?

Put them on Defend. If that fails, tractor them into the planet...

I tried them on all settings.  No luck with the drones.

They dont want to get closer than about 10k to the target.

I tried launching some  very close to the planet, and all they did was run away to min range of 10.

I am going to lock up the tapioca pudding machine in the pilot preflight briefing room.  Maybe that will work.

Fighters don't really work against planets. Once in a while they do if you're extremely lucky, but never if it's raining, and never on Tuesday.

Try targetting the planet and then select "Defend". The fighters will close on the planet but then fire upon it becuase it's hostile. This may get the fighters close enough to fire drones. I have seen fighters fire heavy weapons and drones at planets before, so I know it's possible. The AI algorithm, however, tries to keep the fighters away from the planet to avoid a collision, and fighters generally don;t fire drones unless they are up close.
