What to do?

Some of y'all know about the Lyran story I've been writing on for... awhile ::) Through the Sunderbans  Well, it's about 2/3s done now.  Been tinkering with it here and there.

About a year ago I came across a place that will publish for you.  All they require is a bit of your story as a preview.  Sounds to good to be true.  And one mustbe careful - some folks will run off with your stuff!

Problem is, I am fairly certain none of us can publish any of our fanfiction.  So, for me to actually publish this story, it would require a serious rewrite (races, ship types, and some references)- and, I don't think I would be able to post the Star Fleet version here while publishing a paper version (although, a bit different).  Ugh.

So, what to do?

I'd like to post TTS here, and I'dlike to get it published in paper.

 :-\

Any ideas?

Basically all you can do is two entirely seperate versions. A lot of the stuff Jaeih does she ties into the various novels and games and tech manuals she's read/played, so some backstory and supporting characters aren't actually her intellectual property. Thus she cannot publish anything she's written without major surgery to her stories.

I guess that is what you are meaning with regards to the ships we use. They're the intellectual property of either ADB/TFG/Amarillo or Taldren/Interplay, and thus not ours to use in a published literary work.

This place that publishes for you... Is it a "Publish your own book here in limited runs of 10!", or is it an actual mainstream publisher who'll take any kind of story, Star Trek or otherwise?

Mind you, it's been awhile.  They are not the BIG mainstream publishers, I've never heard of them before.

Here's the reply from Banbury:

Thank you for your interest in Banbury Publishing.  You state that you have a "story" you would like published.  Is this a short story?  A novel?  A novella?  Fiction?  Non-fiction?  To get published, you need to complete the manuscript and begin submitting it to publishers.  Get to know your publishers, first, to make sure you are not wasting your time or theirs.  For instance, do not submit a manuscript to a publisher who only publishes travel magazines.  You will need to do some research to that end.

Some publishers will require that you send an inquiry letter first.  When they receive the inquiry letter, they will respond letting you know if they are interested in seeing your entire manuscript.  Your inquiry letter should contain a brief, but complete, synopsis of your story or novel.  Again, you will need to do research as to which publishers will accept unsolicited manuscripts or will require a letter beforehand.

As for Banbury, we would like to see a synopsis and about three chapters along with the synopsis.  Upon review, we will contact you for further submissions.

I am only 2/3rds or so away from being done with the story set in the SFC universe, a rewrite would require some additional thought.

As for the story itself, I've mapped the rest to the end - thus, I know, almost for certain, how things will turn out.  Some details will likely change.

As for publishing, perhaps it would be best to do that with another story.

Yes, it sounds like it. Sometimes coming up with a completely new story is eaier than rewriting an existing one to suit a different universe.

Time is the problem.  Lack thereof.
 :-\

Well, I've decided to finish this work as I began it.  Then, sometime later, I may do a convertion.
