SG5 Junkyard Thread
« on: October 01, 2005, 08:00:17 pm »
Use this thread to post ships that you dont want showing up in the yards. I'll see what I can do on some of your requests, but know that not all may be cut. Some need to remain for server stability, AI generation and other things. If you cant find your ship in the yards then use the webyards. ALL ships are always available there.

Thanks.

If we already gave you lists, do we have to list them again here?

I'd prefer it, as its less work for me to dig thru 200 PM's to find them. But here's what you posted:

Can you please remove from the Klingon shipyards the following:
    All the PT (1,2,3)
All the H class (S,L or any others) ie K F-HS
    All the G2 class
All rhe E3 and E4 class
    All the G4 class
You can also take out the C9 (all varients)
The C8 is superior and is available at the same time, so no need for it.

Some H class may be needed by AI generation. I'll take a look. PT, wtf are those?
G2, E3,4 and G4, all that has YFA and LYA issues where if you remove some of them, a FF will not properly appear for AI generation for a script that calls for that bpv, cuz its now deleted and it will cause mission crashes.

If I have duplicates that are similar bpv and YFA and such, ill see what I can do. But crap like that may be too time consuming for me... You might need to deal with it and just use the webyards if your shipyard is full of E3's. But if thats the case, let us know on this thread, because we can adjust the build probabilities on ships.

The DN's, again, bpv issues, but look at this. If I got rid of all the ships except the very best ones, guess what you'd see in the missions all the time? Only the very best ships. Some may like that, but I'd grow weary of seeing the same 5 or 6 ships in every mission. Variety is needed for random AI draws.

Just post the ship designations and I'll go thru every now and then and cross out the ones I can.

I vaguely recall asking for most police ships and scout / survey ships (IE, mainly ships with 0 HW mounts, 1 HW if you want to count a single F-torp as a HW) to be removed, and that the CPF etc. (even more 0 HW ships) only be kept if there is going to be commando-ship mayhem.

Wasn't it funny when my starting ship was a CPFW???
Let slip the Commandos of War!!!  Where are all those D6Gs???

Oh, when did RMs have to specifically request that all the generic freighters (you know, ships that belong in convoys or as future WYN Auxiliries) be removed?  I haven't seen one of those in the yards for over a year.  Of course, today blew that streak... ;)  so consider me as asking for their removal...

Not meaning to be cranky, but I have a couple thoughts/questions...

1) Why did I create the webyards if we are still doing this? (besides improving mission generated AI - excessively?)

2) What does Skull think of this? He had commented in another thread that he did not approve of the webyards as they made all the best ships available all the time. I also do not recall him ever pruning the list down to the best ships at player requests and everyone was still happy. (though he may have pruned his lists down to all line ships and the like but was running on the destabilising disabled AI settings which avoided the errors created by ships being unavailable for AI character creation but as he was running on the flatfile this was still workable..)

FALR,SNP,SNP+,SNB,WB+ for starters since ADB says that
after a certain point(exactly when is not Known) they are ONLY
used for Defence of static positions and used En Massed
and try winging with any of these for 5 missions and you will
see JUST how useless these ships are with current AI

Any ship that's currently available is available from the webyards, so
I admit I'm also haveing a problem understanding what the issue is.

All you have to do is go to one of your bases, go to the yards, right click on a ship to
bring up it's description, then you can alt out of the game , use the yard, and go back in.
(At least with WinXP, I think I did it with 98  also, but it was a while ago)

You never have to leave the game (just make sure you're not parked on a hex that's being hit)

Um, Hexx? IIRC, You can't be logged in to the server at the same time you use the webyard.

I'm in complete agreement with these folks. The webyards were made so people can get whatever ships they want (assuming it's available)...as long as it's working, I don't see it killing anyone to have to log out for a couple minutes to be able to get whatever ship they want (and can afford). Do people want Dizzy to send out pee bottles and Depends too so that they have one less mandatory break to worry about?  ::)

Aren't the SNB, SNP+, and the FALR the only ones showing up at the current server date? The SNP+ has to stay for something in the police ship range, and we don't have an alternate frigate design until '74 (server started in '73?) so SNB has to stay...Dizzy, if anything could we axe the R-FALR? I think we have enough ships to cover things around 91 bpv (though if it needs to be a CA too, the WER is closest at bpv 103).

Why didn't you just ask for meow specific ships everyone wanted built?

Seems like a lot simpler to meow !!!
