It would be so sweet to tell Time Warner cable to keep their lower rates for new customers while they screw over their existing ones. This will open up a whole new can of worms as all a small company needs to do is be hooked up right in a region and have the servers ready for action! Not to mention no more lousy routers! They are great, don't get me wrong, but they seem to ALWAYS be a pain in the arse to get going right unless you are a techie.

You know, I recall reading about this. It comes up every once in a while. Personaly, I think It's a great idea, But I'm curious about Line noise, I would think that there would be alot of line noise associated with such a thing. Or am I way off here?

I use Netgear Powerline Ethernet bridges at home, so the technology is viable. They have to be plugged directly into an outlet, not a powerstrip or a surge protector.

What kind of access speed do you get with those Kmelew? I've been doing some re-thinking about putting the wife's PC in our master Bedroom, so I can use It at night right before I go to sleep.

I've picked up the bad habit of Reading Ebooks at night, and have fallen asleep in my office too many times. and No Frey, I didn't pass out that time.

I get about 13 mbps...about 802.11b speed. I use it so my nephew's XBox can share my DSL connection. I notice hardly any lag when he uses it.

And you need at least two of them...one that your router connects with and another for the other device.

EDIT--I should clarify Stephen--my nephew lives with me.

I'll have to check It out. I was thinking about Using something similiar for my sister in laws home also. See we both have our own sat. con. But If we could both get on the same network, we could Eliminate one sat. and That would be cost good for both of us.

Right now these devices have a range limitation. I believe the NetGear bridges can cover about 2000 sq ft. You can't use them between buildings right now. In the not-to-distant future I see this being possible, though.

Coolness. Right now our homes are about 200 yards apart. I guess I could always make a Larger antenna for a wifi network.

Leave it to those darn Europeans to beat us with our own tech and Japanese tech.

I imagine they will come out with a device that goes through a surge protector. I'm just wondering how ComCast and TWC and Cox will react to this. Maybe LOWER their already sky high broadband rates?
