Elevators & Temporalness
« on: September 22, 2005, 02:08:38 pm »
What the bejesus (when was the last time you heard that eh? -my word for the day)
is a "Temporal Elevator"? ((and by what is I mean what the heck does it do?)

As i continue my foray into creating the ultimate Andro Invasion server (while not actually haveing or
even having glimpsed at the Andro book) I think I might need to know

Also- is there an actual background fluf description of the Invasion years? I (kinda) remember reading one on
Operation Unity, but is there anything written about hte LDR's destruction for example?
Why they hit it? Or is it just the well written 'then the Andros destoyed the LDR"
There's a blurb in J2 abotu "one of the last ships to emerge from the LDR docks in those dark days" but
that's about it..

It is so complicated I couldnt ever begin to describe it. But it is so textbook, pen and paper intensive, its right up your alley.  ;D

Oh -and another question- is there anyway to set up "secret" bases?

I know Bonk (by accident I think) managed to set up a planet/resupply point
for the Klinks that showed nothing in the hex,
A) would this be repeatable?
b) Could you do it with a pirate layer over the Empire layer?
ie (and i assume it's not but..) is it possible to set up say a "secret" Klingon base in fed space
The empire hex would have to be Fed of course- but is there anyway to make it so a Klink ship could resupply there?

I bought the module... It looks so... paper intensive... Uses fractional power.... its an impulse by impluse addition and subtraction thingy... I dunno how you could possibly keep the flow of an SFB match going using it.

Its better to PBE on that one. ;)

G/L! Oh, and there isnt anything in SFC or a script make up that I think could approximate it. Those SFB guys went out of their way on this one.

Ah cool thanks,
from teh (very few) descriptions I have of it I had assumed it was some kind of base-movement/ecm thing.

In another thread, I suggested giving Andro bases the cloak instead of the temporal elevator.  I think that is about as close as you can come in SFC.

Basically, it's a time rift that the bases could create around themselves that made seeking weapons take longer to reach the base.  The bases moved themselves further away from you in time rather than in position.  The weapons would take several impulses to cross that last hex rather than just one, and plasmas would thus run themselves out without going anywhere.   Only, the rules make it a lot more complicated than that.  Those Andros were weird.

Sooo tehy could travel to other galaxies, and move stuff back and forth in time, but couldn't build a decent phaser..

Or a simple shuttle.

Just think of all the physics and research that must have gone into building the Temoral Elevator, all of which would not have needed adding to the game if the Andros had been able to launch a simiple Wild Weasel.  These aliens were so smart they were stupid!

(Actually, the background material says they didn't have "phasers" at all, it's just that the beam weapon they did use had the same effect as the phaser 2.  Imagine the effect of those TR beams when they upgrade their beam weapon taragetting sensors to phaser 1 levels!)
