Can some kind soul help me with the OP database cleaner?
« on: September 21, 2005, 12:00:42 pm »
I have a single player campaign that I have grown attached to that is starting to bog down and become quite large.  The database cleaner program did not come with instructions, so I took some guesses.  I copied the .exe into the directory of my saved campaign.  I executed the program, and a text window opened up giving progress on the phases of the program.  Exerything seems OK until it is time to clean the database after all of the database checks.  The program writes something to the disk, the text box stops progressing, and then my computer locks up every time.  After a hard reboot, there are no changes to the database.  I am running under W98 if that makes any difference (as it does with the map editing utility >:().

Can anyone explain how the program is supposed to work?  Does it work on single player databases?

Um, anyone seen Darkelf?

it MIGHT work, just make sure you backup the DB before trying.

DarkElf is on the missing list.

I have sucessfully used NW's cleaner on the single player db. (standard shiplists)

I am sorry to act like such a nooB.   ::)  I did a quick Forum search and found a thread where Bonk describes in detail how to use the database cleaner.  I also found there a link to an updated version of the program.  In case anyone else has similar issues, the thread can be found here  http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163350578.0.html.

I now believe that the program was working properly.  I did not realize that my savegame file was up to 12 MB.  It took a little less than 2 hours for the cleaner to fix things up.

Thanks, Bonk, for posting how to use the program, and to DarkElf (wherever you are) for providing this excellent utility.
