I'm not sure what the parameters of the situation are, but if your frustration with the MySQL Migration software has anything to do with converting the sfc2.net forum from MSSQL to MySQL, it would seem that such a conversion on its face is of low priority unless of course there is a substantitive reason for such a conversion.

All that to say, you are doing alot of great work for the community, Bonk.  No one expects you to take on everything that "needs" to be done.  I am sure any number of things can wait to be done.  No one's going anywhere and you are only one person.  Do what you enjoy doing and let others pick up the rest.

Lepton, for ease of use and being able to update to a much newer, much more secure version of phpBB, converting to mySQL is clearly a priority. The security holes are part of why the SFC2.net forums got hacked while they were still on bozobits.

All that said, I'm just glad that Bonk fixed the e-mail notification. Now I acually get a link I can use when being notified of a new post in a thread to which I have subscribed, which wasn't happening after the hack on bozobits.

Ok, I'll buy that, but are the sfc2.net forums essential in any sense?  Seems like there is a fully functional forum running right here that might be altered to meet any of the needs that sfc2.net met.  I guess my comments should have been restricted to more of a functional priority as opposed to a technical priority.  I do appreciate you clearing that up for me.

SFC2.Net has been, and will continue to be, the place to be for online campaign coordination and the like.

Lepton, thanks for the suggestions regarding how we utilize and place our resources.

We certainly will take this into consideration.

I just managed to get SFC2.Net converted to a MySQL db and updated the phpbb forums software to the latest version. You will need to clear your cache and cookies. Let me know if anything is broken or missing. (Old threads with quotes in them are a bit wonky, but other than that everything looks OK. I'll work on fixing the old quotes)

I think I have a solution to the quotes issue... working on it now. (or rather wordpad is...)

The forum will give some errors while I replace the db.

OK, I think I have the quotes issue sorted. There are still a few improperly escaped double quote characters in the db, but I don't think this will be a problem, users can edit them where they see fit. (i.e \" -> ") I think they're just in thread titles that use double quote characters.

Let me know here if anything is badly broken, we can always go back to the old version and the MS-SQL db, but hopefully this will work out.

Remember to clear your cache and cookies before using the new version of SFC2.Net.

And this is why Mikrowskwish SQL sucks while MySQL kicks ass...

Ya, I think that was a bug in the old version of phpbb, I saw it report absurd values when the old MS-SQL db was actually ~120 MB on disk. The new version of the db in MySQL is actually ~75 MB on disk, so I still don't quite trust the phpbb software in its report on the db size.

Hah! I think I figured out what went wrong with my last attempt to update the forums... nothing! It seems the autopruning feature works now where it did not previously... and most of the forums are set to autoprune posts older than 180 days every day... this is why forums took a long time to load first load and then all the old posts were missing...  :smackhead: I am going to try another update today (on a copy) and then disable autopruning on all the forums before test reading them... So the current forum will still be up and readable, but anything posted in the next few hours will not make the update if it is successful. I will post here when this update attempt is complete/sucessful...

OK, I think I have it this time, db converted to MySQL, phpbb forums updated to latest version, autopruning disabled on all forums.

(Some topic titles will still show a (\") because of a db conversion glitch, but this is minor...and can be edited where desired by the user.)

Clear your cache and cookies before using the new forums version at SFC2.Net.

Let me know here if there are any dealbreakers or minor issues. (I still have the old version to revert to if needed of course). I'll check back later this afternoon to see how things are.

After the recent hardware replacement, php and phpbb were updated to latest versions and eacclerator was installed. MySQL update remains. Post feedback here, thanks.

SFC2.Net, Dynaverse.net TeamSpeak and Xenocorp.net will be down for a short time while I update MySQL on that server.

Update complete! Sorry for the delay, I ran into a snag that took a while to find. Heimdall now updated to the latest mysql, php, eacclerator, and phpbb.

:multi:

Let me know here if there are any issues, or if anyone needs database access restored or if any of the old databases I did not restore are actually still required.

Dynaverse.net should get this MySQL update soon too, but not tonight... it will take a while as the db is quite large...
