What is Serenity? Sounds like a Fed Starbase name.
.. Assuming this is a valid question..
Serenity is the Film "sequel" to a short lived show called Firefly done by Joss Whedon (the Buffy Guy)
It was cancelled after @ 11(ish) episodes by Fox in one of the odder cancellations recently. They essentially
gave it a bad timeslot, advertised it as done "by the Buffy guy" and aired the episodes out of order which completely screwed
up the storyline.
Fox finally let Whedon get the series set up on DVD (I'm not actually sure if Fox even retained any rights to it) where sales went through the roof
Universal agreed to do a big screen feature of it to help wrap up some of the loose ends in the story. There is actually rumours/talk that they've optioned the rights
for sequels, but I (unfortunately) doubt they'll happen.
Essentially it's a story of a space ship & crew, the stories are (imho) Far superior to any Star Trek season- and that was in it's first year.
It is actually a story where the crew does have problems and there is some conflict amongts the crew.
-And real conflict and storylines- Not something stupid like Voyageur's or DS9's alleged " conflicts between crew members"
I honestly can't say enough about hte show- I'm one who paid no attention to it when it aired and only picked up the DVD set- and it's
probably my favourite Sci Fi series ever - I'n a way I'm actually kinda happy it got cancelled- the first season seemed to hit a stride of
acting/ storytelling and continuity that arguably Star Trek never reached, and certainly not in it's first seasons.
