Possible issue with AVG virus scan software.
« on: September 18, 2005, 09:24:41 pm »
I just tracked down a 3d rendering issue to some free virus scan software that Bonk and I recommended here a while back. It would seem, but I am not totally, absolutely, 100% sure that this free software blocks Directx3d rendering. I haven't been able to independently verify this so if anyone who has also downloaded this freesoft would not mind, could you run your dxdiag and run the Directx3D rendering test?

Lemme know what you find.

I use AVG and I've never had any problems with it (which is more than I can say for Norton or McAfee).

I'm current with my AVG updates. Spinning cube slows down and speeds up but I'm running an old 1G Athlon thunderbird.

Hmmm...I removed the proggy and all works well. But now with the results being posted here by others I'm really baffled.

It's not all that baffling to me, it appears that more than two programs or drivers are involved.  I used to have fits trying to run Norton, Age of Empires, with Creative Soundblaster Live add-on program(s) (music player IIRC).  This was way back when I was running Win98.  Remove Norton or disable some of the live programs and AoE would run fine.  The only way to really find out is to keep note of what you are running and disable each of them one at a time until the problem disappears.
