Been a long while since I've paid a visit but my suggestion for Fast class ships (DNL, CF, etc) has always been to have it exempt the "cannot disengage" behind enemy lines rule when caught deepstriking.

What would be really cool is if you could make the D2 server kit allow 'fast cruisers' to move two hexes at once instead of one like everyone else.

That would really make DS'ing an interesting senario....;D

Actually I was thinking of that last night (nor specifically for CF's but..something else)

There was a server, uhmm years ago iirc that one rcae (I think Fed?) could move 2 or 3 hexes for some reason, where everyone else could only move 1
Anyone know how to do this (or remember it?) I know it happened, but the race could have been pirate, might have been an olde serverkit or something.

Hexx, I think you're recalling the Fed speed bug, where Fed players could alter the game speed to run quicker missions. That came up around SG2 time, and was one of the things that spoilt that campaign. When 1 race can run missions at speed 11, and the rest at the set speed of  7 or 8, it makes a difference.

Nope, different bug- although that may have been why I remembered it as Fed.

Hmm anyone remember a server- ages ago- where pirates foguht empires, and the pirate list (at least) had
some of the Taldren small Xships?

I think it was Triangle III where there was a group of pirates that was available to be hired by the other two sides to perform assassinations vs the other side.  The pirates were also awarded VCs for killing RMs and ARMs in one v 1 fights.  I was Pirate RM under the name "Katbeard".  Unfortunately the pirate mixed shiplist proved to be too superior to the races shiplists due to getting its ships a little earlier than the same ship would come out for the normal race, and that skewed PvP too much.

So far as I have ever discovered, there is only one setting in the gf files that controls how many hexes you can move.   I don't believe there is any way possible to set it so that one race can move a different number of hexes than any other.

However, the mandatory missions are triggered a bit differently on the pirate and empire layers.  Is it possible that you are remembering pirates being able to average a couple of hexes before getting a mandatory mission, while empires always got one every hex?
