Broadband firewall problems
« on: September 18, 2005, 04:43:01 pm »
Hey folks, I was all set to jump online last night, especially with the free wireless broadband I have in this super 8 motel, when I get this firewall problem with D2. Y'know, I went through everything I know how. I uninstalled everything. Reinstalled with the compatibility mode on win98.... installed all the bonus stuff the same way. Put the game shortcut in every possible compatibility configuration, and still I get the firewall message. So I installed SFC3.... I That game did the same thing. I even tried just turning my firewall off. Still no go. So tell me, is it maybe because I am connected to a LAN in this motel? The way I figure it, I can tell my firewall to do whatever I want it to, but maybe the motel has a firewall on its system that I can't get past. I mean, I should be in a home by the time the real server starts up, so I'm not concerned about that. It's just the test server I"d like to have a whack at.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help....

Three words. Forget about it. You won't be able to play from a Hotel. There is no way they will change their firewall settings for you. Trust me, I tried at a residence motel at which I stayed for a while. They absolutely would not.

You are probably connected to a wireless router over which you have no control. (i.e. you can't control the port forwading) But on the off chance you have your own public IP address have you installed OP+4 or the directory server fix before connecting?

To find out if you have your own public IP address or not, type "ipconfig /all" at the command prompt and check to see if the IP address assigned to the wireless adapter is private or not. If it is in one of the following ranges it is a private IP address and you are behind a router.

     10.0.0.0        -   10.255.255.255
     172.16.0.0      -   172.31.255.255
     192.168.0.0     -   192.168.255.255
