Here is the deal. The wife and I had an arrangement. Eco War is going to involve a lot of hand-holding on my part to keep it running, and a lot of DB editing. Because of this, the wife and I had struck a bargain. I would run Eco War during the summer so that I wouldn't be such an absentee father and leave her to care with three kids and all their homework for three weeks.
Well, the que progressed through the summer slower than expected, my wife's best friend needed my computer office as a bedroom while she house-hunted, and now that my slot has opened up I have *just* enough time to squeeze it in before the kids workload will get heavy. But, that means no lead-up, no real cartel leadership organization, and absolutely no slack time if anything goes wrong.
To top it off, an urgent task has just arisen at work that if I don't stay on top of could harm my career. I was all set to say, "screw it! I'm running the server anyway! I've waited too long!" when the wife volunteered a very generous offer. If I take care of work for the next couple of weeks then she would agree to look after the kids and let me run the server after school starts.
For me, this works out much better and I can do the job I wanted with Eco War. I can also take the time needed to give everyone all the advance notice they need for how this server will work.
With that in mind, I want to push the Eco War server back three weeks. It will not start this weekend. It will start Friday, August 16.
WHAT ABOUT THE MEAN TIME? WHAT THE HELL ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO IN THE MEANTIME??!!
I really don't want there to be a huge gap between servers. Certainly not a three week gap. That would be boring. So there are some things I can do.
1) Other ideas have been mentioned. If someone has something ready to go within the next few days, we could do that. Maybe one of Hexx's ideas. Maybe more slave girls.
2) Hexx is stirring a lot of interest in a PF server, where you fly squads of patrol boats rather than ships. Unless he really wants to run that himself, I could run Squad Commander 2. I have some ideas to improve from the last time as far a flotilla control goes. I could start that this weekend and run it as a "light" server. (I can do this one rather than Eco War, because it involves much less work from the admin. Squad Commander 1 should have shook out all the bugs; I should only be required to reboot the machine when it crashes and count the points at the end.)
Any input from the gamers?
