CPUs
« on: September 06, 2005, 02:11:48 pm »
I have always wondered what CPUs are out there.

Now, the only info I want is what the frequency your CPU is running at.

For those of you who have overclocked, i want the actual rated speed.

and those of you who are wondering what i now have:

P4 3.0E (Prescott) (HT)

I have in my place two machines with the Athlon XP 2500+ @ 1.833 GHz (Barton core) (socket A)  ;

and another with the Athlon 64 3000+ @ 2.0 GHz (socket 754).  This one runs HOT though...

(edited to include Athlon 64 clock speed)

Pentium III Coppermine 1000MHz 640MB RAM on an ASUS TUV4X mainboard - still faster than most P4 systems I've come across, and faster than my Athlon XP 3200 and Duron 1.3GHz systems

If I build another PC for myself, I'll research the best lot of P4's (or the processor of the day) made and put it into a top notch mainboard for another system that smokes like this one.

AMD Athlon 2000XP running at 1.7 Ghz, no overclocking...

AMD Duron 700 MHz, no overclocking...

PENTIUM II 500 MHZ, no overclocking...

I've given up upgrading for the moment...  I plan to keep my computer till it sputters it's last sput, as it is fast enough to use for multitrack recording, and to simulate the Apollo Landings on with no Frame glitches...

Bonk, you might want to look at AMDs if you still do any numbercrunching; they do run fast and are better for floating point calculations whereas the Intels are better at integer math...

... and don't smoke motherboards, the PCBs and other crap will kill you quick and if they don't, it's another long detox that'll make using VMS on a mainframe or minicomp look fun.

It does seem that not only are there more AMD users but we tend to have more computers.

So far nothing slower than my fossil notebook though.

I will add that my laptop does run a PIII 850. but since it is in retirement, I did not include it initially.

OTOH, my server is also running a PIII 933. but of course, it is not involved w/ SFCOP, or any other game for that matter. (onboard video sucks).

So, it is just my suped up desktop syst wanting a better case. I did find one from Antec that i fell in love w/.

So keep them coming.

I have two laptops I did not mention.  A Texas Instruments P90 MMX, and an Acer 486DX100.

Obviously, I no longer use laptops for much.  Occasionally, I'll hook it up to use Excel.

Everyone has different tastes, and there are some delicious cases I simply can't even dream of being able to afford, but I found some really rockbottom-cheap cases on Newegg that I loved and built two systems in for my kids.  They love the cases, too: simple Raidmax steel boxes with one plexiglass side, w/o their cheapo power supply.  They have a very simple look, but they are cheap.

I agree with Ed if I was in the market for a new system I would be going with AMD right now.  Much better built then those Intel LGA boards.

So 24 hours after starting the thread you expect the world to have logged in and told you the info, RFLMAO!!!  Most of us only come here once maybe twice a week to see what is going on, learn some patience.  I was going to list my CPU but with this attitiude forget it!

Elite KAOS,

I think he was just kidding.  If you just log in every two weeks or so, you might miss the undercurrents of humor and the tenor of things around here.

Post your stuff if you want, don't post if you don't want.  This thread is easy, man.

See you in a month.

I'm using an AMD Athalon 1.4GHz Thunderbird processor that I bought when I first built my computer 4 years ago (one of the few remaining original parts of my computer, along with my CD Writer, floppy drive, RAM, case, and keyboard).  I'm planning on upgrading it to an Athalon XP 2800 processor pretty soon.  I don't want to go any higher because of my motherboard's limitations.
