XACT Beta Announcement
« on: September 05, 2005, 07:40:10 pm »
I'm not much into this kind of thing, but I think some of you are.

The Microsoft Cross-Platform Audio Creation Tool beta is now available! XACT allows composers and sound designers to create dynamic, non-repetitive sound effects and more easily take advantage of sophisticated, real-time effects processing, while providing optimized bundling and multi-streaming interfaces for programmers. The tool and engine also support real-time in-game auditioning, editing, mixing, and monitoring of audio content, allowing for rapid prototyping with minimal programming resources.

This beta will allow audio content creators and developers for Windows to get started creating and integrating content into their games. XACT includes both a graphical user interface for content creation and a set of runtime binaries which will allow the developer to load and play the content. The beta includes the following features:

Basic content creation with wave banks, sound banks, tracks, events and cues
Variables which allow the content to change based on game state
Runtime parameter controls (RPCs): pitch and volume curves associated with sounds and tracks and are controlled by variables
Attack and release envelopes supported through RPCs
A preview release of Interactive Audio which allows for complex transition between sound variations on cues.

Please Join the Beta!

You’ll need to log into betaplace with your passport id, then sign-in using the beta Guest ID of "XACTBeta." Once you are signed in with the Guest ID, click on beta link and complete the short survey.

*Some documentation may refer to beta as the Microsoft Audio Creation Tool (ACT). This will be corrected in the final release.
