What's a good registry number I can use for a new F-DN?
« on: August 30, 2005, 02:30:40 am »
For TMP class DN's, what's a registry that hasnt been used b4 that'd be good for a new FDN class?

That's a tough question, owing to the many different systems that have been used. But, in the interest of simplicity;

The original DN's started with 2101, the CVA's 2201.  So I suppose 2301 would fit the bill (I don't think it's been used before).

Btw, what name are you going to use?

LOL!

This one is going to be a true to the SFB specs for the F-DNG/H models. None of TMP F-DN models made matches the specs... Most Modelers just used their own discretion when deciding where and how much weaponry the ships had. Some of them were quite good, but none accurate.

D-DN/+ and DNL and CVA all come out before the DNG/H, which was, imo TMP looking ship at that point. So mb the registry could start off with 2300. Or should it be 2301? If I manage to get a DNG and a DNH mesh, what would the registries be? Would it matter? The DNG's were upgraded to the DNH, right? So if there ends up being 2 different meshes, then the saucer texture could simply be used on the other mesh...

Do any current registries use 2300's? Dont want to step on shoes.

According to the tech manual 2100-2120 were used for the Federation class. Presumably the DN+, DNF, DNG, and DNH were upgrades of those ships.

So if you're starting a variant of those you can use one of those hull numbers. If it's a new design maybe start with 2150, or 2300 like Wandy suggests.

Presumably the DN+, DNF, DNG, and DNH were upgrades of those ships.

The DN/+ were TOS desogn. Moving onward to TMP design, that would require a new class of DN I think cuz I remember reading that the changes to the Enterprise from TOS to TMP resulted in such extensive changes that a new class ship was created and further construction was laid down from the keel up and no other TOS designs were converted. They were mothballed. So if thats the case, then 2300 would be ok for DNG and DNH.

Or am I worng here?

Well, if we're going by SFB, all of them were TOS designs.  TMP never entered the equation.

Use NCC - 2297 if it isn't being used by any other ships currently.

Ok, so what are the list of all the names and registries of the 21xx?

I've seen these names floated around:

    2100 Federation
    2101 Star League
    2102 ??
    2103 Compact
    2104 Corporation
    2105 ??
    2106 ??
    2107 Star System
    2108 ??
    2109 Concordat
    2110 Directorate
    2111 ??
    2112 Star Union
    2113 Alliance
    2114 ??
    2115 Dominion
    2116 Star Empire
    2117 Trusteeship
    2118 ??
    2119 Consortium
    2120 Entente
    2121 Star of Andor (unofficial)
    2122 Unification
    2123 Solidarity
    2125 Babylon
    2126 Federation II
    2127 Unity
    2128 Domination
    ...
    2157 Star Cougar
    2161 Star Tiger

The list is incomplete. Some of the registries are without names. Out of all those, Star League, Federation, Babylon, Entente, Directorate, Star Empire, Star Cougar, Star Tiger, Alliance and the Ulysses which uses the Babylon's Registry number have all been used on other models. What else has been used?  And did I miss any?

The official FJTM list of dreadnoughts is:

2100 Federation
2101 Star League
2102 Unificatum
2103 Compact
2104 Corporation
(this space left blank intentionally ;) )
2106 Konkordium
2107 Star System
2108 Affiliation
2109 Concordat
2110 Directorate
2111 Organization
2112 Star Union
2113 Alliance
2114 Confederation
2115 Dominion
2116 Star Empire
2117 Trusteeship
2118 Association
2119 Consortium
2120 Entente

Anything past 2120 is something made up by SFB or someone else, not that there's anything wrong with that.  ;)

Oddly enough, ol' Franz seems to have completely missed 2105.   ???

These names seem to come from political organizations within the Federation.  For example, in Franz' world, the official name for the Vulcan government is "Planetary Confederation of 40 Eridani."  Star Empire is named after the "Star Empire of Epsilon Indii," and Konkordium is named after the "Alpha Centauri Concordium of Planets" (Alpha Centauri seems to use some sort of Greek-inspired lettering system where the letter "K" is used in place of "C").  The only other two governments he mentions specifically are the "United Nations of Earth" and the "United Planets of 61 Cygni;" perhaps one of these was meant to become the namesake of NCC-2105?

Not entirely sure how this will fit in and far be it from me to say NOOOOO but I had hoped to use the 23xx numbering for Chandley Frigates and related Sub Classes.  I am aware that it's part of FASAs numbering system which doesn't really work too great but it does fit in with the SOTSF numbering system... Of course it could be argued that since I haven't produced anything for bloody ages AND the fact that anything FASA related is hardly canon or indeed accurate sometimes, that I'm in no position to insist that the 23xx number series be used solely by me.... How arrogant would that be!?!?!  Though I will say that as quick as I am to go "NOOOOO, you cant use that" I'm hardly suggesting an alternative...  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
