Oil goes up, up, and away

Darn those tropical storms and China. Even today I see many people with gas hogs driving around with no passengers. In a way, they only have themselves to blame.

No Jack... you show me a 50 MPG'er that I can use to:

tow a boat.
tow a bike.
tow a tractor.
pull a paperwood trailer.
carry a cord of firewood.
And many, many more activities.

I drive what I do because of a lifestyle necessity- and I ride in it alone because I'm neither married nor dating at present- and even if I were dating, I would be unable to consider allowing her to pay for gas unless we were doing something like driving cross-country. 90% of the people that have gashogs have good reasons for them. It's the 10% of soccer moms and H2 owners that give us all a bad name.

As you stated J.C., YOU have that necessity, most others in the Austin area do not as the ranch land disappeared long ago during the tech boom and Cali companies moving here. My gut feeling is most austin residents with some cash are caught up with the materialistic image.

You may have your hybrid truck sooner than you anticipate, Toyota has the new highlander with a V6, total H.P.? Try 270 stock!
Toyota has also publicly stated that they WILL have a hybrid version of EVERY auto or truck model they produce now.  ;D

Don't forget that sweet tax break that comes with a hybrid purchase.  ;)

Well, I'll be in the one i have for the next10 years, man. WHat they do between then and now really don't effect me- unless they begin large-scale retrofitting, in which case I'd be up for it as long as I didn't loose too much pulling power. The towing capacity on that Highlander isn't nearly as impressivre as a gas-only V-6 and it has no way in Hades of pulling with my V-8. THAT is why I need what I have, and untill they have a hybrid/alt fuel ICE that can pull heavy trailers... well, I'm stuck with gasoline.

Sort of makes me want to live near corn or sugar growing areas. If Messyco was not so corrupt then they could have a nice cash crop as Messyco is one of the world's largest corn growing nations in the world. That will happen when Hades freezes over though, PEMEX owns the govt. in Messyco. I've also read that ethanol is really good for your combustible engines as it cleans as well as burns. I don't think all the engine cleaner or fuel system cleaner comapnies would like to see Ethanol take off in use.

I'm surprised BP does not make a big push for Ethanol, seeing how they always talk how they are for alternative fuels.

And so it begins. $70 a barrel folks.

As Mu pointed out during the first spike of 04, we still have it quite good, it's just that we took inexpensive oil for granted.

Just remember, it's REFINERY complications, NOT supply of oil.
