SC2: Installer. WE ARE NOW LIVE
« on: August 27, 2005, 07:42:27 pm »
Here is the el-cheapo installer for Squadron Commander 2.  It is a simple zip file with bat files included.  Why a batch file instead of a more complicated installer?  Because I had five minutes to build this thing!

Instructions:

1) Download the installer zip file
2) Use Winzip (or your favorite substitute) to unzip the contents into your StarFleet Command Orion Pirates folder. Use the extract button!  Do NOT drag and drop! from the Winzip window!!!!  OH THE HUMANITY!!!!!  And, for the love of all that is holy, do not extract the contents to anywhere except into your Starfleet Command Orion Pirates folder
3) There should now be a SquaMaker folder in your OP folder.  Open it, and double click on the ToSquad.bat file.

THAT'S IT!  You should be set up to play!

If you want, you can put shortcuts to the ToSquad.bat and the FromSquad.bat files on your desktop, so that you can install and uninstall at your liesure.

If there are any problems, let me know.  I'm here to provide.

Get the installer here:  ftp://www.fourpower.com/pub/Squad2_3Install.zip

The Installer Has been updated!!!  Before you use the updated installer, be sure that you Uninstall the older version by doubleclicking on FromSC.bat!  Also, if you have a weird file in your SqdnCmmd folder called Ipf, you'll need to delete that before reinstalling!

Sometimes installing late is good.  Especially when I made the original installer while I was in a hurry.

Not missing any missions
Got on the server
-no models in mission

SL points to model folders (ie LPF) as in SqdnCmmd folder, don't seem to have been extracted
All the model folders are present in the Squadmaker folder though.
(Yes I'll copy them over)

Bloody Hell!

I uploaded the wrong version of the installer.  The one you all have right now includes a wonderful typo, which prevents you from extracting any of the models.

I'll fix it.  Hold on five minutes.

Met_starbaseconstruction.scr
and
met9planetaryassault.scr

Both look like stock files.  Could you have deleted some stock mission files?  They don't have the "NW" or "TG" or "EEK" prefixes in most custom scripts.

It's not in the installer, but Hexx and I seem to have it.

Other answers:
1) It should not mess with any of your current models.  It contains all the models that are not in an OP+ install, and puts them in their own folder.
2) It puts your shiplist and ftrlist and strings and text back the way it was, but the new models will be left in their SqdCmmnd file in your mian OP folder.  When you are done with the server, you can delete it.

UPDATE!

The installer has been corrected, and should now extract all the models you need.  I have verified that it works on a computer that contains only OP+.

I'll watch this space for any further problem reports.

Should the PFL's have shuttles?

Yes, PFL's had a mech link for carrying a shuttle.  So dod PFm's.  (For mine sweeping purposes.)

PF scouts did not have a shuttle in SFB, but I have given them one since so many of their scout functions do not work in SFC.  Now they can make WW' for those nasty plasma F's.  I also gave them a probe, which makes them the only ships in the game with a probe.

Keep an eye out for Lyran Lancer PFs.   (The L-pBCTn)   They have the ESG lance and two phaser 3's.  I took the idea form Corbo to give the Lyrans some crunch.  I'm curious how this helps the Lyrans.

Another note for Lyrans:   You are the only race that have Fi-Cons as both support and vanilla ships.  Which means that you can have up to three Fi-Cons in your flotilla at once.  This is to give you a lot of drone power against fixed installations, or anything else you want to use them for.

Not so fond of the FiCons- (having fighters launch one drone seems to get them killed)

Love the server idea.. it's challenging and fun
but..

Fighting one Hydran LN+ is fun., fighting 2 is a challenge
Fighting 3 , winning ,and receiving 100 prestige is a bit of a losing propostion..

Honestly great server- seems fun, but each fight is costing me more in ship repairs and replacement PF's
than I'm getting.
Still I suppose I can always start a new character..  :P

Hydran PF's (I *think* it's the PF's) seem huge
They are about the size I'd imagine a normal frigate would be to my PF
Not sure if this is your model.siz file, might be something in the one I had.

I'm actually having some ides to balance Lyran PF's- Im thinking maybe if they had the power to arm and fire a third(or third and fourth) Dizzy it might help.
Then agains it might make them ott so..

Yes, another error in my installer.  If you look in your Starfleet Command Orion Pirates/Assets/Models/ folder, you will see two files:  Model.siz and SC_Model.siz.

The Models.siz file should have been renamed to SAFEmodel.siz, and the SC_Model.siz should have been renamed to Model.siz

You can fix this for yourself, and then all of your PFs will appear the correct size.

I'll get (another) new installer up to fix this eventually, but I've a few errands I must run first.

OK, been on for a few missions as Romulan.  tried Patrols while i contolled 5 ships, did not lose a ship in 5v5, but only made less than 150 and cost me over 100.  tried the one where you need info off enemy ship in a 1v1, np.  tried the one where you go to a listening post, 3v3, no prob.

Now, tried the one where you take out a minor base in an asteroid hex.  5v5.  I drew a Fed CC+, a Fed Scout, and a Fed DD+.  took them all out in about 8 mins, no lost ships, no major damage.  Flew in 5 ship formation to the MINOR base.  it has 4 Phaser4 and 4 Phaser3.  Lost my lead ship at about 15 hexes from a single burst, before the plasmas got out.  Lost a second ship after first volley of plasmas hit, on the base's second shot.  Lost a 3rd ship on the 3rd firing sequence of the base.  Managed to keep my 4th from being blown to bits, but took extensive damage.

Finished the mission, received mid 200 points.

Repurchaced my ships, resupplied, this is what it cost me to do so:      1185

I lost nearly 1K and I WON>   now it was fun, but perhaps cost effectiveness means not running missions against any base of any sort IMO.  Seems that you need not take many ships or the costs really can escalate.  Please bear this in mind when you join in on server.

Just passing on info.

Well, I think the point here is to have fun. I dont think there needs to be a reason for making money. So mb all the ships and resupply could be cheap enough to afford attrition and not have to worry about it too much when you shp gets wasted.

Herr Burt, what are the alliances?

As Risky says, the alliances are -- nominally -- classic good guys vs. bad guys.

However, as reflected in the VC rules, each race gets graded on its own.  (Everyone is out for as much as they can get, in this wild and wooly Colonial Zone, with only a passing nod at the back-home alliances.)

Actually, I think I can put a multiplier on the points awarded after a mission.  I'm not real sure why points are proving such a loss this time; they weren't last time and I thought I had the same GF settings.

If I can't multiply the point awards, I'll reduce the supply costs.

Fixed.  A bug in the installer cause the ISC models to install improperly.

You'll need to:
1) Uninstall SC by double clicking the FromSC.bat file
2) Look in your SqdnCmmnd folder within your OP folder.  You'll see a weird looking file called Ipf.  This should have been the IPF folder.
3) delete the weird file
4) delete the SquadMaker folder from your OP folder
5) Go to the top of this thread and download Squad2_3Install
6) Install again, using the new ToSC.bat icon.

You will
1) Get the correct ISC models
2) Get the correct Siz file
3) Have a lot of fun pointing and clicking
4) Grow irritated at me for getting this right the first time.

Enjoying the server- but is there anything that can be done with the AI draw?
When a 3 PF flotilla draws a RN, LN+,LNHB it can get kinda extremely difficult.

When it happens twice it moves into the annoying category.

Lol, I had a similar comment, I drew an I-ECA, I-CM and an I-FFW in an Asteroid Base assault... (non asteroid hex) I managed to kill off all the ships but was left in my crippled leader PF trying to take out an asteroid base... it was comical. Then I thought about the Four Powers server and I figured this was normal difficulty for a dastardly Herr Bert server, will probably just take some getting used to.

Noticed no cartels on the map, getting news spam because of it. (not a biggie) Equal economies will also cause this.

There was some trick to preventing the Asteroid base assault from coming up in non-asteroid hexes... I think it was using the default mission matching settings (i.e. non-SS settings). Or a draft radius of 0 - is the draft radius set to 1?

Like those Gorn PF models... its fun... wheee!

What are you complaining about?  Your 3 PF's launch the other three and you've got him outnumbered two to one!

Ordinarily I would ignore this as typical player whining.  (Players these days are getting soft.  Why back in my day, we had to do all this in interceptors and admin shuttles!)  Espeically since it is Hexx.  But, since it was annoying me last night as well when I played as a Lyran.........

OK, I'll reduce the AI draw a little.   Probably happen around midnight tonight or so.  I'll post a note after it happens.

Dunno if this can be fixed (or even if it should but..)
Plasma PF's can launch all their F torps at the same time

Seems... excessive...

Done!!!

In a dozen missions as Lyran tonight, all my patrols drew enemy PF's.  (Which is pretty much what I wanted when I built this thing anyway!)  The AI draw was reduced by upping the BPV of all War Destroyers and bigger by 20%.

Ambush the enemy and a few others also gave me enemy PF's to fight.  (By the way, I hate Holwers!)

I did draw a Hydran Knight in an Asteroid Base Defense mission, but who cares?  I had phaser IV's on my side.   ;)

A few people have already noticed that Corbomite's idea for Lyran Lancers were in their shiplist.  Took me a while to figure out why the Lyran Lancer PFs weren't appearing in the shipyard.  That should now be resolved.

The Lyrans now have crunch power.  ;)
