Is this possible (server + script stuff)
« on: August 24, 2005, 06:55:37 pm »
1)Is it possible to have a server set up with sides
A + B + C + D +E +F

Where some of the sides (say A + B) are normal empire slots (so at war with each other)
and C,D,E,F are pirate slots- at war with each other as well as side A + B , but having free
movement around the board.

2)a) Is it possible to set up a fighter type than can only appear on Bases and are *not* purchasable by players?
   b) Have we ever determined if fighters/PF's can be launched from planets or is that "a bad thing"

3) Is it possible (without specific script modding) to ensure that a certain kind of ship is always in a planet/SB assault mission?

4) Is it possible to assign legendary officers to ONE kind of ship/base in a mission script without having the possibility of them appearing
    in all enemy ships?

5) Someone (or many people) was/were wroking on Andros a while back- did they ever get to be working? (he asks innocently...)

1) I think so.

2)a) Yes, simply set the FYA to 999
   b) Cannot be done, need to make some kind of "PDU" unit the is like a Satelite base for planet based fighters/PFs

3) Yes, TG or Karnak can do this.

4) Karnk or TG?

Yes.  The mission matcher seems to care a *lot* more about which governments you are at war with on the empire level than it does on the cartel layers.  If you set the pirates to peace with all the empires, you should get free movement.  Then only certain missions will give you mandatories in enemy cartel space.  (Like, asteroid base.)  Remove that and you are set.

a) Yes, see DH's answer

b)  You can fake it.  Make the ship you want, but use the FTR class type.  (So you've got a cruiser that the game will treat it as a PF.)  Ad this ship to the hangar bays of your starbases and set the FYA to 999 so that players can't buy it.  Presto!  You've got a DN (or whatever) in every starbase assault.

The glitch is that plasma-D will fire at the dreadnought.  But since plas-D are supposed to be able to fire at ships, you may not care.

Yes.  Evil Dave has done this in the past, when he made sure that Lyran players got a drone pirate that they could control in every planet assault mission.

No idea.

I've done a version.  Dizzy has done a version.  Mine were for EAW, and are now overtaken by additions to the game code.  You might ask Dizzy how his are now.

Had two prototype EEK GAW missions that included tholian "web" and Andro "dis-dev" features (in early stages) that were in use on SFB-OP. It was concluded though that without PA panels that purists would not consider them Andromedans. Work has been shelved.

Hey, we can only do the best we can with the tools we have.  DisDevices are cool.  Please continue with your work.

I missed this the first time.  We used Andro Pirate AI in one of the GW servers.

I want to use "Andro" some time soon, just need some custom scripts to emulate their features.

<Points finger at now smelly with mackerel relevant purist ^...>  ;D

That was not the only reason, Karnak ran out of steam and time for scripting work. If he can find time to address a few bugs we might be able to convince him to update the attached script as well, which is geared for the SFB-OP-04 mod which has the Andros in the Prime Cartel slot and the Tholians in the Korgath slot. Andromedan "Deep Scan" will simulate displacement and Tholian tractor will simulate the web snare on Enemy Sweep Patrol.

Actually I was thinking of massive amounts of armour and a zillion or so batteries

Anyone know the dmg for the TR beam?
Curious if any of the X-beam weapons approximate it.

TR beams are easter eggs in the game.  I think their abbreviation for the shiplsit is TRH for heavy beams and TRL for light beams.

TR Beams do work, but have no graphic IIRC

I went with reasonable shields, massive amounts of labs (for regen) and massive amounts of APR.  (They'd have to use all that power for reinforcement, right?  I'm not positive the AI uses batteries properly.)

This is correct.  But to be clear for the uninitiated, you do see a beam reach out and touch the enemy.  Your weapon icon just looks funny on the UI.

I don't see why another graphic can't be substituted, say the Phaser B one. What about the sound effect?

Its TRBL (15 pts dmg) and TRBH (20 pts dmg), and they have a blue beam for the graphic.

From what I remember when I made Andros a few years ago, the TRs use the PPD icon on the ship UI, and they fire a beam in game (blue?).

5) Someone (or many people) was/were wroking on Andros a while back- did they ever get to be working? (he asks innocently...)

I've always wanted to do 2 dyna campaigns and only 2 in OP.

ISC Invasion  start date 2273, end Date 2285

followed by the

Andro Invasion start date 2286 end Date 2293.

I moved the dates a little off SFB timeline so that we pull the Andros. out of Advanced Era, and the ISC have max. impact on the other races by invading in their shiplist sweet spot (ie. early to mid. Middle Era).

What I really want is a working SQL Server kit to do them on. Then I would move ahead with the scripting work.

Only issue with Andros are the PA Panels. I think Rod proposed using lotsa batteries and low shield strength on this ships.

DisDev's are pretty much a done deal.   It's the web-castor that was giving me fits, so I did the web snare as a consolation prize. I just left the current GAW prototypes with tac. warp cuz it's so cool.  If you think about it DisDev's are just a very limited version of tac. warp.

Once full-blown tac. warp is implemented then seeking weapons are rendered useless, and you are now in the TNG era.  So, tac. warp usage in any Lost Era dyna has to be carefully scrutinized.  You gotta have something primitive on some prototype flagships, but nothing that works like in SFC3.

The way I see it Advanced Era (start date 2293) is the start of the Lost Era and it lasts for about 40 years. SFC3 era starts around the time the Cardies first conquer Bajor around 2230.  By 2230, you have full-blown Tac. warp, Phaser 9s and 10s, plasma bolts, Ion cannons, etc.  Plus, all the seeking weapons are rendered obsolete cuz you can micro-warp jump away from them at anytime.
