Yeah, I have been on this game a while and it is well-constructed.  As for the red and green, well past servers have had other colors dominant.  The nice thing about The Forge is that a "comeback" is very possibile due to the nature of the map and resources available.  A couple of years ago another game "Red Alert" was basically blue and purple, Roms were down to a few hexes on the "far side" of the map.  We Roms then engineered a nice comeback of sorts against all odds and a pathetic shipyard (and some inactivity on behalf of ISC and Feds who thought the game was won...)  It ain't over until it's over - or Bonk says "it's over".

Ive been on hiatus from the forge, logging in for a couple missions just to pull my ship back to friendly space. It is a nice map with still many neutral hexes and Im sure, supply for all us hammered on races.

2) Redownload and install TheForgeScripts.exe, you'll find a link elsewhere in this thread.

Bonk has updated the scripts over time.

WTF is "F.K.Kohul"?  :huh:
there was one Fed and one Gorn on besides me at the time...no other players at all... :huh:
I did have an AI helper in both missions, I'm sure it was AI by the way it flew and the fact it had slow drones, and there's no player by that name in the roster lists.

I've just never encountered that before, is it some "feature" or bug...?

Missing some info here...

Are you telling me you drafted Gman the fed though he was not in your hex and you both got a victory when you defeated him?

That does sound like an AI character. The webmap battle log sorts AI from humans by looking in the character table for the presence of an e-mail address (AI don't have them) however, sometimes an '~' character gets inserted in the WONLogon (email) field for AI records for some unknown reason.

I'll take a look at the db... probably about due for a clean anyway.

The similarity of the AI character's name to FRA.E.Kehakoul_XC is purely coincidental.

In summary, a somewhat bugged mission.

EDIT: no it was not a case of a bogus e-mail for an AI character, but probably mistakenly flagged as a human in the battle log... I'll take a look there...

No, no...
Was referring to someone saying that was a real person/player name...who was that dork anyway that said that... :P

I'm saying Gman was a long way awy, he wasn't in the missions...nor was any live player.

I'm not realing complaining about this, the missions went as they should...it was just something usual I noticed and thought I'd point it out since you're (Bonk) always looking for little tweaks and adjustment for the SQL thing... ;)
It was just a "FYI" kinda thing... ;D

Cool, gotcha, thanks for the report, I was aware of this occasional bug in the battle logging, I'll take another more detailed look now while I'm here... to see if I learn something new.

Digging for the battle now using this query:

AllowAIToTakeHexes is set to zero in the gfs. Got that covered. People come and go, it'll probably pick up after KCW.

If you want to buy a DN but there are none in the in-game shipyards, use the column on the left on the webyards linked on the webmap:

Why does it seem that the Fed ships are not as competitive as the Roms or Klings? Maybe it is just me. I haven't played in a while.

Also, a friend and I were talking about putting up a server with modded ships... but it seems easier to just play on the Forge. (I looked up the server setup instructions and have not been very successful starting up even MYSQL!). :) Oh well. Bonk, would you be willing to take suggestions for ships and such from players who rarely inhabit the Dynaverse?

Btw, thanks for putting up the FORGE. It is nice to have an online place to play.

The Fed ships are competitive...it's all in how ya use em.  ;D

Rarely are matches on D2 "even" matches. You and Fury were a bit out matched during our battle.
Big Kudos for fighting it out.
And NEVER let a fully loaded Rom DN tractor you, man...it's a Death sentence... ;)
Had that not happened, the battle could have gone different with all the fighters you two had.
Either way, you did guys have the odds against you a bit from the start.
But, you did put a hurting on me before you died.  ;)

You're welcome. All suggestions are welcome.

MySQL is not necessary to run a server, you can run on the flatfile much easier and it is more reliable under load as well. (that is the default mode).

Thanks KBFLordKrueg. You guys beat us pretty good. :)

Furry-Hawk keeps complaining about how we (as the feds) are just entertainment for the Roms and Klings since we have no empire left. I don't really care personally. We (feds) should try to re-establish the Federation. I just found out last night that I can buys ships online too... that is cool. I never saw that before.

Bonk, I think I will forgo setting up a server to play on yours. It is established already. But out of curiosity, how do I set up a non-mysql server? Using the game?

Questions about the Forge server (if you already answered these somewhere else, sorry!):
1. Why are the defenses of the neutral worlds so high (10, 20, 50, 100!)? :)
2. Why is the map so large?
3. How often is the server reset (or is it not reset?)?

I'm not a super experienced guy in this game, so please bear with me fo my questions are tedious. :)
