I've been messin around with a few concepts on Federation Star Base designs ..  this is the latest one  ( and not necessarily the last )

do you have any other views of this base? (i.e. top, bottom and side?)

Thanks guys ...

As for other views ..  let me see what I can come up with.  The top view would be rather simple.  The bottom not too bad ..  Probably what I need to do is close ups on a couple of areas ..  and perhaps try to do some detail on the two dry dock areas  ( which are large enough to house up to 4 ships each.)

It would be cool if we could get this one built !

Holly cow dude !

The only thing I see is the very top  (but it may just be the angle of the view).  Also there is one section toward the top that does have some "extrusions" ..  that look some what "webbed"  (for lack of a better term).  Add the very bottom end to it ...  and of course the 3 "dock areas"  .

I started on some more sketches last night (mostly the dock areas).  I can tell ya that the "docks" themselves are pretty much TNG stock stuff.

Hmmm  lets see ..

OH !  As far as scale  ...  This puppy is kinda large.  AS you might have guessed there are 4 entrances for Star ships.  Each of the doors are big enough for two of Star Fleets largest ships to pass through side by side ....  easily.  (At least that is my tentative plan)

The over all idea is that this station is a major installation developed as a  Deep Space  out post for remote deployment only.  Yet it does address the problem of adequate access, in and out of the base in an emergency situation ... as well as big enough to house, every known facet of Star Fleet operations.

BTW...   some one PM'd me a VERY good question...

The "dry docks" ...  they can hold up to 4 star ships each.  That's two on each side (and each dock is a "double wide").   I'll get a pict up this evening when i get home.

thanks

Olbuzzard. I do hope that when you say "largest ship in the federation" you mean in the canon way and no, noncanon. FIne looking stations and if you don't mind I'll give this a go for Armada 1/2 as well (remember it'll be somewhat lower in poly count than SFC3 or BC versions).

HEY BUD ...

hmmm  let's see ..

1.  largest  ..  NON cannon stuff...  I think I see what ya mean.  My first knee-jerk reaction was more negative.  But now that I think about it ..  there are some pretty wild ships out there....  sooo Lets say that IMHO  the Galaxy Class and the Armada if I'm not mistake is wider than anything out there  ....  (primarily cannon.  Heck even most of my designs are not "cannon".  But I do try to use "cannon" guidelines when developing stuff.  Even this station was developed off of "certain Federation characteristics".  Even the USS Maco we designed was some what "cannon". .. Most of the "Titan" designs ( with the possible exception of 2 ) are still not THAT much wider.  Again .... most of these designs are not much wider than the "Galaxy".  That was what I had in mind at least.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is ...   you are right sir.

2.  As for permission to develop your own .. I dont mind.  Please include in your folder where the design came from.

Please also note:

Antivyrus ...  hey bud   ..  keep up what you are doing sir !  I really want to see this done.

here's a copy of the dry dock area.  After pasting a Galaxy in there ..  I'm wondering if the idea of two side by side in the 4 entrances is appropriate.  You can see the size as it is.

I'm trying to sift through files now to see if I have one with the Galaxy next to a typical base.  I do know that it barely fits through the door.   And, as well, the door is considerably larger when compared to the rest of the station.

In short ..  this station is still subsantially larger than the rest of the Federation bases out there.

Conclusion ...  the model stands ..  the entrances and the dry dock SIZE ..  is all that I need to finalize.

lol. No worries OlBuzzard. What I was referring to was if you meant non-canon then your looking at the BC2 Inifinity Class as being the largest (if that was the case the this station is not something I would relish attempt to take out!!). Thanks for the permission and don't worry. You'll get full credit for the original design/schematics. Good take on the shipyards though. Its a shame neither armada game allows for multiple build points on a model.

1.   I can't get over the super job Antivyrus has done on this !

 :notworthy: :notworthy:

2.  Thanks for the support from everyone.  I've really enjoyed this project.  It all came togeather so quickly.

3.  Major Payne ...  Hey bud .. NP ..  It's good to closely evaluate even the most popular of models.  Your points were good ones to review.  Heck ..  once I did a paste of the Galaxy next to the model ..  it was obvious that I was off just a tad.  I think you can still get 2 through the entrance ..  but not side by side.  They would have to be staggered one above the other ..  and probably at about a 45^ pattern in order for that to happen.

Doing the light map on this is going to be a real challenge.

again thanks to everyone ...   Keep it cool guys ..  this works !

Antivyrus ...   I can't thank you enough ...   great job sir !
