Reinstalling will do NADA, it'll keep doing that.  Try finding the StarfleetOP EXE and directly make a shortcut to that.....

Maybe try alt-Tab out and back in.

Don't you just love those mystery bugs that happen for no apparent reason but end up fixing themselves? ;D

I've found that pressing a key or messing with the mouse while OP is loading up will cause the keyboard to lock up. Since then it's been hands off and havn't had that problem anymore.

All you have to do (in XP) is.  Make sure just before game launches that you hit the escape key, that shrinks the game to the task bar.  Next just click on the game on the task bar, reinlarging the game.  You can always test keyboard when you change the name of a player or ship.  You can also correct with the same procedure during game start or play, but it sometimes will boot you from the game.

to prevent that method from booting you, set the game to un in windowed mode.  Just go into the sfc.ini file and change the "windowed=0" to "windowed=1".  Also, make sure you set your colors to 16 bit or the game won't load.
