About the filthy DB . . .
« on: July 24, 2005, 02:42:38 pm »
 . . . it's gonna stay that way until it crashes :p

We've been running over 24 hours without a crash so I want to see how long this new Kit can go before it p00ps.

Thank you for your understanding.

Who cares if its filthy as long as it doesnt crash. We can still see enemy ship movement. And I'm eager to see how long it can go as a test as well. I'm also interested to see how often your turn breaks and a high player load affect the CPU performance combined with an ever increasing DB size which is exactly how big after 24 hrs now?>

Hey, is this an error free shiplist?

Many of the AI markers especially in the middle hexes are not actually the result of an ever burgeoning database. They are in fact simply AI characters moving around the map. But they are all red you say? Yes, they are, but they are not Klingon AI markers, they are Snickers Mining Inc. (Rogue Pirate) AI characters being generated from the base in the centre hex. They are a lighter red in colour compared with Klingon AI markers, but could be difficult to distinguish on some monitors.

That would explain all the pirate monsters I kept drafting in the middle of the board last night.  Pretty cool feature, actually.  Nicely done, guys and gals.

Ahhh, so the pirate IS being drafted! Excellent... I had actually hoped that all races would get Pirate AI in the centre hexes to make it the same for everyone, but we didnt quite have time to test this before the server started.

Another thing I have noticed as well, AI characters being created by the serverkit are stored in the database as if they were human players, the only difference is that they do not have ip addresses. These AI characters can be drafted exactly like human opponents but the team spec in the mission script needs to allow for non-playable races to be drafted (currently I only have it for playable races).
