Need a little help ...
« on: July 23, 2005, 10:28:40 am »
AS most of you know we have done a retext on an Armada and created the USS HOPE.  It has been ready for several days now ..  expcept for one thing . ...   the hard points.  Right now she would be loaded as a BB FULLY ARMED !

Needless to say I need to figure out how to change that.

IMHO ...  the hull mass etc could remain the same.  BUT ...  there should not be any need for Photon torps and (in the case of SFC-3)  only phs 10's.

If someone could assist in completing this  please let me know.  Off hand I'm thinking conversons for OP and SFC-3.  I have no idea how to even begin for BC.

input please.

thanks

You need max or Milkshape to do the hard pointing for SFC2. SFC 3 I think had a seperate HP editor that had to be used. As for Conversion to BC don't worry about it send the ship to StarForce2 he converts SFC ship to BC all the time.

I would like to help you but I no longer have Milkshape, so I can not edit them anymore.

There are 2 files in sfc3 that determine the active hardpoints and loadout for ships. Models I've downloaded often include the recommended defaultcore and defaultloadout settings. These are normally contained in the credits file or in a separate file within the model folder. I'd recommend going that route for the sfc3 released version.

EDIT: The text files have the loadout and core settings that I think you want. Just include these in the model folder and include a note about them in the credits/readme file. Greenv@lvs guide would help anyone who wants to put this ship in game with accomplishing that.

OKIE ( I actually thought of that)

and that makes sense ..  but here's the kicker.

I DL'd the entire package of the Armada.  It already has the good stuff in there for a BB.  It is a very well done model ..  complete.  If I knew how to remove the file that set those hard points up  I could drop a text in the model folder explaining what the ship is ..  its function .. and the reason for the "limited weapontry"  that would be cool.  Then if the ship were actually used in a MOD of any sort the designer could follow those guidelines.

Unfortunately there's no actual file that can be removed. The hard points can be removed from the model file but if they are listed in the default core, they can still be loaded in the game (SFC3). They would just fire from the middle of the model instead of from the location provided by the model file. The 2 texts files in my previous post (after edit) would give people a way to place this ship in game with the settings you want.

Best you can do, as far as SFC3 goes, is explain the function of the ship and reasons for limited weaponry. SFC3 is all about ships fighting ships and I think there really isn't a way to make use of a hospital ship. Still, I'd love to be able to download this and get a screenshot in game of it along with a couple support ships, maybe Sabers or Norways, along side it.

Yeah, for SFC3 use, just remove the hardpoints from the GF file. I know nothing about how OP works, so I couldn't help ya.

I'll see what I can do to remove the HP's from the Armada.. I converted it over to SFC, so I should still have all the original MAX files here still.  Then I can send you the modified .MOD file.  Unless you've changed texture names, added textures to the mix etc, the new MOD file shold be just a dropin replacement..
..ooOOoo..totally useless information..ooOOoo..

Actually it was not necessary to change the texture names.  All files remain as listed.  I have restored the phasers to their original positions ..   BUT IMHO they should only be loaded as PH 10's  (if that is possible).  All Torp or "heavy" weapons should be removed altogether.  Her shields and warp core could remain as is.  ( A large Medical research vessel like this would still require tremendous amounts of power if done correctly)

If ya like ... I can write a "brief" on her development ... etc ..   and post it here as well.  And since you have had a good part in the development of the Armada to begin with ..  if needed I can send ya the files in sections.  (I'm on dial-up and doing it sections seem to work ok)

Thanks for the help.

Cool !

Let's see what  atheorhaven can do with the hard points.  If he does not need me to send him anything  ( and all I do is swap out a file or two.. ) I will be glad to send it to ya as we discussed earlier.  I deeply appreciate your offer to help

For OP at worst he will need the .mod file. What might help him is for you to say what UI you want it to use for OP, and he can then match it pretty quickly.

Buzz, if you would be willing to let me try, I can remove the hardpoints from the model itself.  I would just need your input on her armaments, and I'll delete the necessary hardpoints, and move others around, per your intentions.  Then I can redo the specs myself as well, and even create for you the proper VL, TI, and BS images.
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.

An armada, as a medical vessel? Isn't that a bit...overkill?! :o lol. Anyways yes I can port and HP it however i dunno when it will be done. To think of it I dunno if I ever did the regular armada class....hmm..anyways it's quite simple.
