the Cadet rules are really neat!  Simple and give you most of the rules you need to play a game.  I liked the Cadet rules so much that I came up with some house rules of my own that allow you too play with games just with the Cadet rules (no Basic Set or Advanced mission rule book required) and I even came up with a method to design your own Cadet ships.  Was even thinking about adding a "Cadet Campaign" rules (based on the Campaign Designers Handbook) to go with my house rules.

I like how the game itself has called for and had more TOS desgns made. I have been tempted to obtain me a copy and give it a go in the past, but truth be told after doing some research on the rules  I'm almost certain that I'd not have the perseverance to carry it through. I have never been one for in depth strategy titles. :-\

Well if you have a copy of SFC:OP...there is a SFB folder that is installed...there is a copy of what they call the Cadets game...which is a simplistic form of the full SFB experience...you could always try that first...  ;D

Though I never played the game, I've read the Cadet stuff and visited the sites, and recently designed a few SFB style ships for SFC. Some are up at Battleclinic.
