Help Wanted - Sun Solaris 8 SysAdmin in Chicago
« on: July 14, 2005, 12:55:19 pm »
The company I work for just shipped a NAS device to a company in Chicago, where the receiving company needs help installing and configuring the unit.  One of our salesmen's sons works at the company, and they need a Sun Solaris 8 Admin to help configure the unit - their Admin left recently.

This is a one-shot help needed situation, but could turn into a pernament job, as the company is looking for a replacement SysAdmin.

To-le-do.... ;)...about 5 hrs east of chicago...

running and terminating cable would be no problem...getting it to work is another matter altogether... ;D

plus my new boss might frown on my leaving just when a big project is about to start....a project I am supposed to run... ;D

Dang that's right, I forgot.

Stephen Scribbles down a personal Note never to Visit Toledo, as Crim is playing with the company Cable.

Crim - this is a one shot deal.  They would probably live with you doing it on a weekend, and you could probably name your price as they are in a bind.  Now if you want to move...

Let me know if you are interested.

Well...I'm flattered...but I have just above zero computer programming skills...I can barely keep my own PC running...and that was with your help...

Running teledata cable is easy as pie...getting the system up and running still requires some extensive PC knowledge if I'm not mistaken...I may be a qualified electrician...but I'm no " sun solaris 8 Sysadmin"...

Surely..there is someone more qualified that could use the money...someone like yourself... ;)

Seriously...if they are that much in a bind...hire a local ( union ) contractor to run the cable and then fly up and bring up the system...it will be cheaper than having to put me up in a hotel and having me screw up half the system ;D

I would hazard a geuss that chicago local unions, like toledo , have qualified teledata techs....and all unions take "short calls" ( a day or more of work for a man)....

I would also bet that there are at least a couple of contractors that would jump at the chance to make some new bussiness contacts...

Call the chicago N.E.C.A. office...get a list of qualified contractors...hit em over the head for a good price....fly up to spec the system.....be a hero...

It's what I'd do...I sure wouldn't ask some half assed electrician from toledo to save my butt...to much risk of unforseen problems that could quickly lose ALOT of money...

Cost benifit ratio dictates to me that qualified local help....with company provided supervision...is probably the best solution...

Maybe set up the labor for the teledata cables and have bonk spec the system?...I bet he could use a buck or two...and then you wouldnt have to field 100 fantic calls from chicago ;)

This one is more complicated than just running cable.

The NAS device needs to be integrated into their network.

That's what the Solaris 8 Sysadmin is needed for.

Then I might ask in a most humble manner..... ::)

Why the heck did you even consider my semi PC literate ass??...ROFL...

Did you confuse me with some other crimmy from an alternate universe?...did you forget you had to help me do a winsock reload just to get a browser working on the net?

Christ....it took me a whole year to figure out I deleted clipboard from my old PC and that was the reason I couldnt cut and paste..... ;D

If you needed help...I wasnt it.... :P
