SFC I help
« on: July 17, 2005, 01:09:42 am »
Hey all. Had a question. I've been fooling around with SFC I (gold version) for fun. I've got ShipEdit and have been messing with the ship configs. I'm wanting to mod the weapon settings, but can't figure out how to do it. I realize this is an old game and I can't find almost any material for modding it, but I thought I'd ask here anyway since this community seems pretty active. Can anyone help me?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I didn't see any other forum to post it in off-hand.

Thanks for any help.

Hey.  I could wait two months, but that seems to kind of defeat the purpose to me.  It's really just something I want to tinker and have fun with, I'm not planning on making some massive mod, lol.  I mean, I'm sure there's something somewhere that says how to do it or what program to use (I mean, modding weapons comes right after modding ships) but SFC is so old compared to the newer games I simply can't find anything.  If you know what how to do, please let me know or where I can find out how.  Thanks.

what precisely do you mean by "weapon settings"?

If you want to mod "how many weapons, and where on the ship pointing which way" that's covered by Shipedit.
If you want to mod the "appearance" of weapons (I still remember someone made a PPD pulse in SFC2 so it sends out weed leaves instead of yellow chevrons LOL) then those are located in the game's asset directory. (folder name escape me right now... I am thinking textures?) Those are just straight picture files (with pcx extensions)
If you want to mod the "specs" of the weapon, ie. power consumption, overload, load time etc. then there is no way to do that.
