AOTK2 Beta Installer- How it works

Some people have complained that DH's installer doesn't work
And it doesn't if you have a non-standard install directory

So
If you have a non standard install
it will (after you run it and point it to where you have OP installed)
Make a file (on desktop in my case) called "Enable AOTK2"
When you run this file it will
A)Install a folder called DH123 in your OP root directory.
2) It will also -fun little program that it is- get confused that you DID NOT install OP where the default installation
is ( C:/ Program Files/ Taldren Software Inc /Starfleet Command Orion Pirates )
Being confused it will CREATE that directory and put a file called DH123 (msdos exe file) in it.
Take the file it put in this directory and place it in the directory where you have installed your copy of OP
Run file said file will create the PF models in the DH123 directory

Ex

My copies of OP are in E:/games
The copy I use for this is titled OP2

So I download the installer and run it- and point it to E/Games/Op2
It installs a "Enable AOTK" on my desktop.
I copy (not sure if you have to do this or not) "Enable AOTK" to my E/Games/OP2 directory and run it
Creates a folder in OP2 called DH123
This folder will have the shiplist/fighterlist and siz.mod file in it.
It also has a models folder containing folders for the various PFmodels.
These folders will (likely) be empty right now

I then have to go to C:/ Program Files/ Taldren Software Inc /Starfleet Command Orion Pirates  and grab the file
called DH123 .Copy this file and paste it into E/Games/OP2 (my OP root directory)
Run it
This will then create the pf models to populate the PF folders

Don't know if this is 100% for anyone ,but I've run it three times now and it's always the same on my system.

Hexx, I ran into this before you did. Already posted on it even. Though I didn't know about the PF models at the time. I just was grumping that the installer didn't drop the batch files is the same directory as it put the DH123 directory. I was able to tell the installer to copy the DH123 dir to my OP install dir. The installer ought to put all the files in the specified directory, but for some reason, the installer was hard coded to drop the batch files in the default OP install directory even if another directory was specified for where the DH123 folder would go. An odd thing to hard code. Seems like it would be easier to let the installer put everything in the directory specified. If I had the necessary software, I'd look into how it's done myself. Unfortunately, I don't, and such software is not cheap.

It's largely an irrelevant issue as after an exhaustive study I found I died more often with
a wing than without one.

Only because without a wing most of your deaths by ai opponents never get reported  ;D

On second though...  :: grins evilly and laughs maniacally :: Perhaps I will fly with him. If for no other reason than to watch him get his ass handed to him by the AI...Maybe help them along with a mine or two...
