Thar she blows!

Hmmmmm, 2005 and already Florida had two baths, in the same areas as 2004 to boot! Now here is Hurricane Emily, a Cat 4 hurricane that could reach Cat 5 like Hurricane Mitch was back in the late 90's, not to say Cat 4 is much less. I wanted part of the summer vacation (2 weeks starting this Sat) at Padre Island in south Texas with Vicky, but she wanted Cancun. Well, guess what is in the path of hurricane Emily? Cancun!  :o We'll know by Sunday if it will smack the Yucatan hard. Then it will be interesting to see where she heads next. Will it be the gulf coast of Texas? Louisiana?, or will Florida take another bath?

The upside to all this natural disaster crap is that we have lots of wells and refineries located on the gulf, and when they get screwed by Mother Nature then it affects oil prices (bad for consumers), but it also makes tanker rates skyrocket (good for people like me), just like in the last 3 months of 2004 when the gulf refineries and oil wells were recovering from hurricane Ivan.

Don't forget, if a Cat 3 or above hits New Orleans dead on with heavy seas (Dennis made a 33 foot wave surge once), then bye-bye New Orleans as it is located BELOW sea level.  :o

What will really be an arse kicker is if another storm forms while Emily is on the rag, just like Dennis formed while a tropical storm was loose in the Caribbean.

Louisiana hurricanes are always a pain in the ass because they flood out graves and mausoleums and authorities have a tough time sorting out victims of the storm from dead bodies that have simply washed out of a grave.

I could imagine that one Dracho, sitting on the balcony of an old Spanish style building and telling everyone "Hey look, isn't that grandma floating down the street?"  ;D

Well, I guess it is safe to say that Cancun is going to get a good, thorough reaming by Mother Nature. I am curious if airline tickets and hotels will be cheaper after Emily screws Cancun. This is one dangerous storm people, and if it changes course into the gulf instead of heading for Padre Island/ TX valley area then God help where it hits as it will probably retain or gain strength over the warm waters of the gulf.

Oil and tanker stocks are up BTW. Chavez already ordered tankers to stay put in port while Emily passes and the tankers get paid each day, it doesn't matter if there are hurricanes or not. Last year was a boom because Ivan ripped the oil platforms and terminals a new one and ships had to travel elsewhere to offload.

Well, the experts were right on the money and STILL people did not listen.  ::) Cancun is getting a bath and I will wait for them to clean up their mess before planning another trip there. May God spare Padre Island as I really want to go there as three galleons wrecked off the coast and doubloons pop up to this day on the beach sometimes, and Port Isabel was also Jean Lafitte's haunt for the longest time.

Cancun is always cheap right now.  It's their off season (who wants to go to Mexico in high summer?) and I've done a week down there in July / August in an all-inclusive (all the food & booze you want) for less than $500 a head, including air fare.

I can't have any booze Dracho but Admiral wifey can!  ;) I know it's off season. What hotel did you stay at? We were thinking of

I will PM you later, I'm really interested in learning how you got into real estate and have been raking it in. If anyone deserved it, it would be you, as I remember you trying your own business AND working two other jobs to support your family. Very respectable by ANY standard. The most I did was a side gig while in military, and after I got married second time working 40-50 hours a week for Advance auto parts and going to college full-time at the same time.

2 pilots died needlessly, it's not like they did not know what was coming days beforehand.

Cozumel was worst hit, but only downed power lines and smashed windows and uprooted trees. They SHOULD have it cleaned up by then.
