I've been told that there ought to be one case fan blowing at the CPU, too. If so, maybe you can put it on the side, so as to direct more air on the processor.
If the fan slot in the front is in line with the hard drive(s) then I would put it there. Hard drives can build up a lot of heat as well. The only reason I would put a fan on the side of the case is if the CPU temperature is high. Hope this helps.
