UAW Mod Help
« on: June 27, 2005, 07:09:20 pm »
First off, hello everyone, glad I found this community!

I just finished downloading Chris Jones' UAW mod and am experiencing difficulties, I posted a message to Chris on his site, but thought I'd toss this out there to you guys as well, maybe someone has had the same problem and knows a work-around. Here's the deal: I DL'd the huge file, ran it and a DOS window opened, then closed quickly, and nothing else happened. I re-DL'd the file (ugh) and ran the new copy, and the DOS window opened but this time I got a brief error message before the window again closed, the message said something like "program too big to fit in memory". I have not been able to get the installer to do anything but briefly open and then close a DOS window, and the error message has not been duplicated since. Any ideas?

My system specs are p4 2.4GHZ HT, 512 RAM, 40GB HDD, GeForce gfx card, running XP Pro in case it's important.

Thanks!

~Rick

Hmm. Do you have anything else running in the Background that could be taking up Memory space? What do you have your Virtual memory settings set to?

I'm sure Chris will be along shortly to offer his advice. BTW, Let me be the first to welcome you to our board. we have a great group of guys and gals here. Just bring a good sense of humor, and Jump right in. BTW, I love the Monkey Avatar. Definatly gave me a chuckle.

Hiya SG, thanks for the welcome, I can't wait to get everything up and running and try out the Dynaverse!

As to your questions, I disabled everything in resident memory, thinking that something was hogging up my ram, but to no avail, and my VM settings are roughly 1.25gb (I was told a while back that you wanted 2.5 times your Ram)...

Regardless, I've DL'd the OP Enhancement Pack Version 3.2 by Pestalence and installed it, so I'm getting (I assume) the EAW single-player experience with all the community fixes and upgrades, however I still can't get my EAW to accept the CD Key it came with.  I've PM'ed Pestalence about it, am under the impression that he's away so I guess that's all on hold for now.  Anyone got an add-on for OP that will throw in the Sulu voice briefings from EAW?  Somthing about getting briefed by a TOS character adds some suspension of disbelief to the whole experience, heh.

Well, I'll keep an eye out for a workaround for UAW, until then I guess I'll continue taking it to the ISC with my trio of Federation Heavy Command Cruisers.  Again, thanks for the welcome and hopefully I'll figure out this whole Dynaverse thing soon...

It would be more likely to get a response from Chris's site than here.

Believe me tho, I understand the concept of burning the candle at both ends.

Welcome :)

(BTW, pick up OP if you have a chance...it's far superior to EAW)

Hey guys....I've posted on Chris' site (as well as PMing him here), but I'm guessing he's been too busy with real life to get around to reading it, so I'm also asking for your help here...

I DL'ed Chris' UAW mod (several seperate times) and tried to run the .EXE but short of a DOS window opening and getting a weird error message about not having enough memory to run the program*  nothing happens.  Chris told me there was an issue with getting the DL correctly, and to simply wait for a better mirror site, which was coming soon.  No problem there.....HOWEVER, I can not delete the apparently corrupt 630 mb executable that I DL'ed, I get a windows message that the file is in use and cannot be deleted.  This is continuous, even after clean reboots, etc.  Now, apparently there is a way to manually remove the files in DOS, as Chris helped some guy over TS get the file(s) off his system.  Has anyone here encountered this particular problem, or have any ideas as to how I can get this thing off my computer?

HUGE thanks and kudos to anyone who can help me here!

Try booting to the safe mode (hit F8 just before windows starts to get the boot menu - I usually just start pressing it a few times after the bios), then try to delete the file.

If that does not work, try running a "check disk" to find the error in the file on disk. Which may allow you to delete the bad file.

Then check here if you are interested in a working copy of the mod:
