USS Alexandria NX-81985
« on: June 30, 2005, 07:49:37 pm »
After determining the losses sustained at the end of the Dominion Wars, Starfleet began to put its scientific endeavors on hold, while focusing its attention on more militaristic roles.  Starfleet’s Military R & D began to study technology brought home with the USS Voyager less than a year ago.  The new Ablative Armor Generators and Transphasic torpedoes were some of the most valuable pieces of hard wear they had ever seen.  Unfortunately the Federation Council believed that these technologies were too good and would upset the balance of power in the quadrant.  It wasn’t until the Reman uprising on Romulus and the threat of a Thalaron Attack on Earth that R & D was authorized to experiment with this Technology.  Two years later an Experimental Starship was released from a top secret Construction Yard near the Mutara Asteroid field.

The new ship, commissioned USS Alexandria, was the first of the Alexandria Class ships soon to be released.  She is of course fitted with Ablative Armor generators and Transphasic torpedoes, but she is also fitted with a new type of Phaser array which manipulates subspace, allowing it to pass through shields and vaporize the armor beneath.  Subspace weapons are of course banned by the Khitomer Accords but with strengthening relations with the Klingon Empire and threats continuing to emerge from the Romulan Empire, the Khitomer accords were disbanded and permission was given to Starfleet by Chancellor Martok.  So far the Alexandria NX-81985 is the only prototype.  The Cleopatra is soon to follow after the Alexandria’s shakedown cruise.

The design is clearly a kitbash of several other ships like the Akira, Nova and Dominion Battleship.  But only the basic shape of the vessel is what I was looking for, because let’s face it; my ability to draw isn’t that great.  If anyone here wants to make this (pretty please :D) the Nacelles, and Hull textures can be changed to whatever anyone wants to change them too.  The outer Nacelles are bent downward like the Akira’s are supposed to be with the inner smaller ones just kinda attached under the wings.  Instead of having the arms or pillars attaching to the top of the Saucer like the Akira is supposed to be, they are attached to the bottom.  I can clear anything else up if you wish to ask, that is if someone wishes to make it (pretty please with sugar on top ;D).

This is a very interesting concept, although the design from the images isn't exactly fitting in my opinion, but knowing the talent we have around this place, I'm sure someone will come up with a design that will do this concept justice.

I hope someone could create some better textures for her.  Like I said, I only used these parts to get the basic shape of the vessel.  The only thing that truly sticks in my mind that I would want to stay the same is the Dominion pieces.  For some reason they look good there.  More information is below for those who are interested in the concept.

Overall Length: 947 m
Displacement: 7,500,000 metric tons
Crew Compliment: 5000 persons
Cruising Velocity: Warp 7
Maximum Velocity: Warp 9.99
Warp Propulsion: (2) LF-50 Advanced Linear Warp Drive Units
                        (2) LF-35 Advanced Linear Warp Drive Units
                        (2) LF-44 Emergency Warp Drive Units
Impulse Propulsion: (2) FIG-6 Subatomic Unified Energy Units
                           (2) FIG-5 Subatomic Unified Energy Units
                           (2) Subatomic Impellers Energy Units
Weapons: 17 Type XIX Collimated Phasers Arrays
               24 Mk 100 Direct-Fire Quantum/Transphasic Torpedo Tubes
1 NX-II Type Subspace Energy Phase Cannon

WickedZombie was cool enough to create a Dedication Plaque for the Alexandria so I'll post it here for all to see.

How about this for a texture change?  It took me a while but I think I pretty much created some nice ones.  There is a big blank area but anything can go there, hull detailing and windows.

I think that new look is a definite improvement.  It looks less kitbash-esque that way.

Eventually I will have a ventral view and hopefully a fore and aft view.  At the same time I am doing this though I am redesigning a ship for a friend.  I will soon have information and an image of that as well.

If I could model worth a damn, I would have done this already.

lol, same here.  I always figured that if I ever learned, I would want to build her as my first model.  Same as my friend's ship which I will post at a later date.

It's not very difficult to learn.  With this one, you would probably want to start with kitbashing instead of modeling it from scratch.  Once you've done that, it should be really easy to mold it into shape.  The hardest part would be the textures, not the modeling (unless you decide to make the model from scratch).

Agreed.. a kitbash would probably be the best place to start.. I'd help myself, but I'm up to my eyeballs trying to get what I can get done, done.  My last day off is today, back to work tomorrow.  :p

I can already do very simple kitbashing.  Remember, I bashed those Connies and that TNG Akula.  :-D
