The Forge
« on: June 16, 2005, 11:58:50 am »
Greetings Folks -

Saw there was another server come up just the last day or so called "The Forge".  What missions is it using?  I get a list of incompatible files (kar_) is at the start of most of the mission scripts.

Couldn't see any dl info in the server description - other than it's using Firesouls ships...

Cheers,

Bartok

"kar_"  scripts are EEK missions written by the Frog Dark Lord el-Karnak, spewer of PPD venom, atagonizer of the gender-challenged Gorns, beller of the fatty Kzins, leash holder of the foul-mouthed Feds, patent holder of the eternal ESG loop buzz, nose tweaker of the Dizzy Klingons, patent holder of the fart ignition Hydran cannons, double-dealer to the Tal Shiar,  etc., etc., etc., etc.

aka crazy pseudo-Gungan SWG thing.

You can find the Mission Specifications here:

http://www.bellsouthpwp.net/r/u/ruyger/Missions.htm

I believe D.net has the mission pack in their downloads section

Many ThanX el-Karnak!!!!

The specifications were very interesting reads, though the EEK-OP221.exe file doesn't seem to be in the downloads section of this site anymore:(  Perhaps u could upload it again?

I'm a novice server/host and am still learning new things (remembering in some instances) and it's been fun.  I must say, my curiosity about scripting missions is growing, though I've not attempted any yet.  I've only 1 resource "Nukedocs" which I haven't investigated too far.

Dumb question about storing scripts.  The client needs these - and the server validates their existence on the client machine, but if the client has other missions (from other mods let's say) that won't prohibit running on "The Forge".  I'm just curious how people manage their mods so they can fly on multiple servers.  Is the mod-chooser something a lot of folks use?

Sorry to sneak in extra questions

NP.  I uploaded the mission packs again.  Get on Bonk's case if you don't see them, and ask him to make them show up in the Download listing by game type.

Server Admin. for The Forge needs to state what missions need to be installed to get on his server.

The Forge is D.Net's "static" Dynaverse server.

Right now we've just got a "filler" map up and we're running the kit on MYSQL.

Soon, and I mean SOON, you're going to see the Forge change the way online campaigns are run forever.

Hail <S> FA_Frey!!!

Honored to see a response from you.  I read the interview w/you and was very impressed about what you and your co-developers have in store :woot:

The entire interview wasn't available when I went, they had a link back to this site which was dead.  This was a bit ago, perhaps that's been remedied.  I've not yet dl'd El-Karnak's mission scripts, nor do I have Evil Dave's - very psyched/interested about your use of MySql.  I used to work quite  a bit in db's and am stoked about it's successful implentation (just a dream in '02).  I've got it installed, but not configured on the machine I use to host "Bartok's Basement".  Think I saw a good .doc about configuring.

I've said it more than a couple times, but I'm HUGELY impressed with the width and breadth of what you and the community has done w/the game

If you are referring to the interview by StarTrek Gamers is we have been overhauling the site as there were problems with basecode it should be up now .STG has used the same code since the old STCD and was changed recently and two codes don't mix very well as we went to a new code.

You can always find the EEK missions at the GFL Downloads site:
